Contract Phone Insurance?
My friend wants to know what would happen if her Blackberry was stolen or lost? She is on a contract deal thing and she has insurance. Would they give her a new phone and what would happen to the older one?
We want to know what happens to the phone as she is clumsy with her phones which is why she has insurance and we dont want whoever ends up with the phone being able to use it.
Well seeing as you are asking what would happen to the old phone you are obviously thinking of an insurance scam because if its lost or stolen what would it matter to you what happened to it?

"Would they give her a new phone and what would happen to the older one?"
Is it not already lost or stolen?
You mean lying to them for an extra phone? Could be done in the good old days but now they normally block the old phone through the IMEI number.
Nick
The first thing to do is to read through the policy details of her insurance and find out what is covered - look very carefully at what it says about 'lost'. It could be that if she for example put it down in a shop to try something on and it got taken she wouldn't be covered at all. Some policies only cover loss if phones are in locked rooms or out of sight in locked cars. And some only cover theft if the phone is forcibly removed from the owner or taken out of a pocket or bag you're carrying. In other words it has to be on you and not unattended.
If the phone gets stolen you aren't going to know what happens to the old one as you'll never see it again! If this happens you have to report it to the police usually within 24 hours or you won't be able to make an insurance claim. It's in your best interest to report the loss to your airtime provider as you'll be liable for any call costs made by whoever uses it. Again check whether your friends policy covers her for any call costs. There is usually an upper limit. If her cover looks naff change to a company like Endsleigh who seem to cover most things.
