Biggens | 10 POINTS! Can you help me think of an idea? |
10 POINTS to the best answer. I own a cab company in Iowa. I have the smallest of the three companies in my city. please answer the following 4 questions...
1. whats the best way to target the elderly clients?(day shift)
2. whats the best way to target the intoxicated clients? (night shift)
3. Best way to advertise a taxi business?
4. If you used a cab, what could your driver do to keep you coming back, time, after time, after time? |

1. posters around retirement homes or get a direct line to your company from an retirement housing's lobby. make a number jingle that has to do with elderly clients needs...get the drivers to open to doors for eldery clientele, and help with baggage and stuff. can you afford to give a discount for the elderly? or a bakers dozen card? use it 12 times get the 13th free?( i say bakers dozen cause older people know what that is and might appeal to them)
2. same:posters around bars etc. and how easy is your number? come up with a jingle that's easy to remember and put it on the posters. put them by the payphones if possible. something easy enough that a drunk can sing it all the way home in the cab. have the night time cabbies play upbeat music (funk or house) so that when the drunks get in they're back in a comfortable zone...
3. radio is ideal because people in cars listen to radio(and when the car breaks down who do they call? besides the mechanic i mean...haha) as well as stores and businesses have them playing and it will be a subconscious memory...oh ineed to call a cab...HEY (they start to sing your jingle) also advertise in the phone book if you can afford that...and put up the jingle in your cabs on the back seat so that people who just happened to flag your cab down read it and it starts to get stuck in their head already. just a few more listens or repetitions and it's in there for good. (if it's a good jingle. i hope you have a good number!)
4. i like my cab to be neat, clean with a personable driver. if you're chatty with me and dont have the radio blasting so i cant even say hello to you then you willhave me back. hand out business cards etc. i had this one cab driver in T.O that i LOVED! he would give out a riddle and if you got it then your ride was free. he loved having people riddle him and i NEVER ANSWERED ONE RIDDLE in the ten years i lived there and had him as a driver. im not stupid but he was one smart cookie! and yes i had his business card and called for him whenever i could get him! he was the ideal cab driver. kind witty clean and respectful! he would wait until i got in the front door when i was coming home late at night! |

put signs up at assisted living facilities. Maybe charge of flat rate for certain distances. The elderly are usually on a fixed income. Put signs in bars for the drunks. Give your flyer to bartenders as well. Advertise by having an easy phone number. Be polite, friendly and make conversation if people look like they want some. Be interesting. Know YOUR city!! restaurants, hotels, make suggestions. |

Give out an easy to read (in other words large type) business card and/or flyer to every customer.
Ask for e-mail addresses, and regular addresses, so you can send special offers in the mail.
Start a loyalty program. Give out a card that gets punched by the driver with every ride. When the rider has 9 rides the 10th (up to $5 or so) is free.
Offer door-to-door service (for the elderly) - in other words - have the driver go to the door to help the person out and down the stairs.
Carry barf bags (with your advertisement on them - and hangover relief tips) for the intoxicated. |

1. See if you can post your name/number on a bulletin board at sr. citizen meeting places. If not, distribute a printed piece of info sr citizens would welcome, with your name/number on it BIG.
2. Same as 1, except to bars and clubs.
3. Big phone no. on the cars. Maybe on bus stop benches, if there are any.
4. Most people aren't repeat users, but those who are might go for a deal like a meal ticket--punch out for x number of rides and get a free ride, or a discount. |

My mom is an taxi cab driver with a small company and the elderly love her. I believe this is because:
1. She drives slowly.
2. She will meet them at their door and help them all the way to the car.
3. She will help them with their bags.
4. She will chat with them about their lives, their kids and grandkids (and my kids). The elderly love attention and conversation.
5. The cab is always immaculate and she also plays big band music for them or has other selections.
6. She drives a minivan, which I think may also be easier for them to get into - it's hard for the elderly to bend deeply and then get up too.
7. She will wait for them (or go in with them) if asked and she's able. They schedule things during her slower times so that she's able. They schedule with her days or weeks in advance.
Provide a refrigerator magnet in large print with your phone number and the benefit to using your service. Produce the magnet for free by making it index card sized and selling other lines to other businesses that the elderly call or to places that will deliver services to them.
We walked the parade last summer while the cabs drove them and gave us buckets full of magnets and pamphlets to distribute. Shortly thereafter, he had to hire another driver and bought a new Lincoln.
Drive the night clients in older cars from the newer cars used with the elderly because of the smell and cleanliness. Your investments will last longer and pay you better.
Who calls the cabs for the intoxicated? Offer free napkins and beverage coasters to bars with your information in large print. That way, the client, his friends, or the barkeep will have it right there. With cell phones everywhere, the more often you can make the suggestion to call you, the better the chance they'll actually do it. Offer 1/2 price rides in the morning back to their car during certain non-busy hours. |

1 & 2 elderly and intoxicated are broad terms in describing your targeted market. The more precise you can draw a picture of them, like income levels, destinations, etc. the better you will be able to market to them effectively without wasting tons of money.
3 - Almost the same type of strategy for this too. My question to you would be "what do you want your business to portray"
4 - I have a regular driver that I use two to three times a month with about $150 in total fares. The first time I used him, he addressed me as "Sir" which showed tremendous respect. He also opened the door for me. The cab was immaculent, not only in cleanliness, but with ride also. I could go on for another paragraph, but I won't, hoping that you got the point.
It is everything about giving the customer what he wants.
Hope this helps

1. The driver should be an elderly person, but healthy and
knowledgeable about different places in the city.
2. The driver should be dressed like a car jockey. He should
be able to serve coffee to sober the passenger down.
3. Besides the usual, your own taxis should be colorful and
display the services provided.
4. I would use the same taxi again if the driver was
prompt, courteous, on time, honest and willing to go the
extra-mile ... for free. |

Paint a welcoming smiling cartoon(santa claus, donald, mickey) on the door cab with a welcome message.anyone would be attracted to travel in your cabs.
to advertise put your business name on the top of your cab.
the driver should be always smiling and polite.he shouldn't be too talkative.and when he is driving he should try to drive on attractive roads where the customer would feel happy travelling. |

1. Be available at the grocery store on senior day and take your time getting to bond with your clients. 2. Build a reliable presence with several bars in your realm and tip the bartender for any requests that he generates. 3.The best place for your phone ad is printed on the cut side of the phone book . 4. The best way to keep repeat customers is to manage small areas well. No more than 5 minutes to pick-up. |

For the elderly....Go talk to all the doctors office give them your business cards or ask if you can put them in their office.
Intoxicated...Go to your local bars and ask if you hand up flyers with your number they can pull off from the bottom, give the bartenders your business cards.
Make sure your business cards are colorful and stand out beyond the rest!!!!
Best way to advertise: Word of mouth is the best way!
If I used a cab, I would want the driver to talk to me, how am I doing? Having a good day? Have your driver give out business cards to your riders.
Just get your name out there....Smiles and how r u go a long way in my eyes!! |

1. Hang by the elderly hangouts, like the Bingo parlor, the outpatient clinic, and the Walgreens drugstores, 2. Hang out by the bars, the strip clubs, the liquor stores, and right by those checkpoints police put up to catch drunk drivers, 3. Get a BIG billboard, a phone advertisement WITH a picture in the yellow pages (because pictures always catch the reader's eye), and 4. Don't smoke, don't try to talk to me unless I talk to you, be very kind, don't be just in a hurry to drop me off and get me to the point B--and always try to be genuine and make me feel SAFE with you as my driver, but at the same time getting me to where I need to go. |
