OK, my sister, friend and I want to make something and sell it, but we don't know what. We came up with a business name, Maraschino, and our little logo thingy is a cherry(maraschino cherries). We wanted to make clothes but we decided that it was too hard, mostly because none of us knows how to sew...lol! We want to know if anybody could give us ideas of something to make, that people would buy. Thanks in advance to everybody!

I have been through this, you have to try out alot of things before you'll find something that works. Also it's easy to learn how to sew (watch some youtube videos) it's how I learnt.
Just start off small and get bigger.
You have to find a market and it just takes practice, I've found my thing now, but it may be different for different people. Just try lots of things and you'll find something that works. |

Well, no one has yet entered the obvious answer, unless I missed it skimming through the answers. You need to decide what you CAN make and what you would ENJOY making, then, how much it would COST you to make it, ADVERTISE it and SHIP it, taking into account man hours spent, materials bought, postage, ad costs, etc.
Even before that you need to do some research and see if there is a market for what you want to make, and how you intend to market and sell it. If online, you need to design a website and optimise it for search engine ranking.
Of course this all depends upon what market you want to reach. If it's just a local one or a network of friends and relatives, you can do most of your advertising with word of mouth, flyers, business cards, etc. Your website would not have to be as sophisticated or optimized for search engines. If a more global market is where you want to go with this, then you will be doing lots of promotional things to get the word out. It's not cheap to do this, but the resuts can be well worth it.

There's a cool web site called Etsy where people sell stuff that they make. Maybe browsing through this site will help you come up with some ideas.
It sounds like you guys like design & fashion -- why not try jewelry-making? I used to make beaded jewelry & I started getting into wire-wrapping. It's relatively easy to learn. I just needed practice to make it look good.

Handbags. They are simple to sew, you can buy yards of fabric everywhere and you can get really crerative. Jewelry is a good one too because you can use the beads on your purses as well! |

Hello my friend,
If I were in your situation, I would make gift baskets and sell them.
Most of the items that go in them you can get from the dollar store. (dollar store items are better than they used to be, the trick is finding a good dollar store)
You can put a basket together with lotions, soaps, shampoos, fruit, candy, etc.
Remember, Christmas is around the corner and gift baskets are big sellers.

Get a slushie maker (very cheap). Just put in a soda and some ice and follow the directions and it makes them fast. They sell good in the summer. Also try making cookies.
I thought you guys would be interested in getting prizes. Not one of those scam websites. You don't get any money-just prizes. I already won a prize so I know it's legit. All you need to do is go to it every time you want to use a search engine. It gives good results, too. |
