Advertising Help!?
Starting an IT Staffing Agency, don't have a lot of money for advertising but want to get noticed, what is the best way to advertise on a very small budget. Need other ideas than craigslist, local newspaper and the obvious. Only serious answers please.

By going to the businesses in your area in person, make an appointment with HR and sell your company.. Or call them but first develop a power point presentation showing why you are the best then ask if you can e-mail it to them.

I would put the money into a sales person - advertising is not low budget - unless you can find a local - extremely targeted vehicle to advertise in. Is there an association that IT managers belong to? Maybe you can get involved in that and advertise.

college job sights if you ever need to hire

put business cards in the lunch spots near the bulk of your target businesses.

put your website on a tshirt using iron on letters if you can't afford a screen printer. Find people to wear them downtown. advertise on a cab if its not too expensive. Use as many ways as you can. Hit your target audience 5 different ways if you can.

Whoa, Pengy and Donna here have given you two exceptionally good answers! I don't think I can top them!!

However, what you do NOT need is an over-geeked obsession with your positioning. I very seriously doubt that your local IT staffing industry is so mature that you need to differentiate yourself in a dramatic way. You *could* but don't focus on it- focus on banging doors and getting sales.

Pengy and Donna are apparently smart people. Listen to them (especially Donna!) and GOOD LUCK!

Try getting on radio talk shows, community tv talk shows. Mail post cards to companies that may need your services. Get a book on "Guerilla Marketing" .

IT staffing is HUGE! Good selection!

Since just about everyone in business needs a capable IT person, I'd start out by introducing myself to the HR department of every single business (large and small) in your city. From there, I'd request a meeting with the HR person AND the IT support person (most places have at least a part-time person at least on speed dial).

At my agency we meet at least monthly with a very good local IT staffing agency, since we're growing at a rapid pace and always on the lookout for new talent. This strategy has worked well for both parties, as we've established an ongoing relationship with that agency, and they are now in a position to know or particular needs and are able to fill them at a moment's notice.

When you meet with your potential clients, let them know just why your candidates are better and why your fees are worthy.

Without money for advertising, unfortunately you'll also have to pound the pavement. Get your writing on, send out some letters, make sure you have some marketing brochures-or at least some type of leave behind. Don't forget a well made business card (printed by a real printer, not from your home computer).

Congratulations. Wish you well.
