Ah, the question of advertising pops up again. It's a great question and asked by small businesses across America. What you need to consider before throwing up a fyer is the legal side of running a business because taking the responsibility for other people's children can open you up for some serious lawsuits whether something happens in your home or theirs. If you are charging money for your service you had better get insurance and a legal business entity which involves permits and tax ids and other things. Now I am not trying to scare you here. People don't think about audits by the IRS because they think "under the table" cash isn't income but it is and all it takes is one unhappy customers or one accident to cause you a world of trouble that can be avoided. As for the low cost advertising options, check out the library book, "Marketing without Money" by Nicholas E Bade... you'll find some unique ways to get your business name out there and then don't forget to ask for referrals from past and future customers. In addition to just babysitting, consider giving story hours or showing cartoons or even doing puppet shows to entertain. I am sure you can be successful but you'll have to think like a professional and not just someone out to make money... provide a service that you're proud of and your customers will not only come back but will bring their friends.
