I don't know if it's a good idea for a study of consumer behavour for a PhD, but I have a question about consumer behavour I'd very much like answered.
I work in K.F.C. (so glad I studied long and hard for my degree), and it's a small shop in a moderatly busy town. We will be quiet for an hour - I mean maybe a dozen customers in a whole hour - and then, for no good reason, we'll get a dozen customers all coming in at the same time. We'll go from being dead to being stretched beyond our staffing. And, after maybe fifteen minutes, we'll be dead again. Half an hour later, we'll get another clutch of customers coming in, queuing impatiently, and then leaving agian.
It's bugged me for a while, but I can't find any reason for it. There's no consistency in the times these customer clutches come in at, no consistency in the demographic, no changes in the outside enviroment (i.e. it doesn't start to rain or heavy road works don't start) . . . it just seems entirely at random. Why would fifteen people all decide to come into the same shop at the same time? If they'd come in ten minutes earlier, then they would't have to queue. But now, they have to waste ten mintues of their day standing in a queue. These customers don't even seem to know each other. They're not even in town together.
What's going on with that? |

Here is one : How the customer behavior is adaptable nowadays sometimes. i.e: The gas prices will go up.. and the customer has nothing to do but shut up and pay the price.
i.e: The price of PS2 games that is getting outrageous.. and yet parents put up with it..
In the past the customer behavior has stronger effect than nowadays. |

Why not making an international study, you can pick your country and any other 1st 2nd or 3rd world country and see the buying habits of people,by comparing them and basing yourself on previous studies and theories.
See how they spend, their reaction toward the promotional activities, do they trust advertising or not....

I have what I think is a good subject: Why people pay attention to the answers given on something like Yahoo Answers rather than consulting an expert in the field. Clearly if someone is looking for ideas or general camaraderie, that is understandable, but people who have, say, serious issues ask questions of people they don't even know,much less what their background is. Of course how the recipient uses that information might be even more interesting.
Hence, you might be able to narrow it down to why people seek anonymous advice. I have often wondered whether it is the fact that one doesn't have to display his or her faults as a real person. At the risk of offending half the population, it might be a lot like how women sometimes discuss intimate details of their lives to people they just met. |
