Anyone else think unsolicited pre-approved credit card mailings should be banned?
They are an ID theft risk! I shred every one of them I get in the mail.

I think they should be banned too. I also shred them. I get at least 5 a week. Did you know that goes on your credit report everytime someone sends those to you.

I agree 100%!! I get the same offer almost every day from one of those companies and it's driving me insane! I tried returning the offer and requesting to be removed from all of their mailing lists, but that sure didn't work. I've even torn up several offers and assorted other mail trash and sent it back in their pre-paid return envelope, but that doesn't stop it. I've even considered smearing the torn up offers with something really smelly, but that would probably get me in trouble with the post office. Look what these companies are doing to me....I'm reverting to juvenile thinking just to get them to stop!!

they usually ask you for some other ID...like a social insurance number or something.

And a lot of times you have to call from your home phone to activate the card.

but I do agree that they are a risk, but no one I know has ever had a problem with that.

Here's a good (but somewhat unrelated) example, I was at my parents house and someone from the phone company called and asked if they wanted to try out a feature for free for 30 days, and if they didn't like it they could cancel before the 30 days was over without any charges. So I said sure.
Then when I called to try to cancel it they told me that I wasn't an authorized person on the account, and I wasn't allowed to cancel the feature. When I asked then why I had the authorization to ADD the feature they said it was different. I told them off, and then my dad called and canceled it. How stupid is that?!?

YES!! I shred them and have sent a few back shredded. I've also called the numbers on them and ripped them a new one. I've written on them "WHAT PART OF LEAVE ME THE F*** ALONE DO YOU NOT UNDERSTAND!!!" and sent them back. I've written my Congressmen. I've notified all the companies that sponsor these cards (Marriott, Barnes & Noble, United Airlines, etc.) not to share my info with any credit card companies. And STILL I get them.

Yes. And the credit card companies should stop sending those "checks" with the statements too! Very dangerous. I shred all of those, as well as the credit card solicitations.

yes sure these people tempt poor people by telling them that they have been preaproved but when people apply they are rejected, plus most of these companys charge higher intrest than high street banks, and they have bad customer service records, and not before mentioning the fraudester companys that advertise like that to get peoples personal details.
