I think TV greatly effects the music industry. People who may never become famous on their own, and who may not prosper after, are given big boosts. The perfect example is the music that came from Ally Mc Beal. I do not think they are chosen through unbiased means. I think personal gains and personal tastes play big factors.

A little bit of column A, a little bit of column B. If it's an older song that isn't being marketed much anymore, then most likely it's through unbiased means/producer's choice. If it's a newer song, or a song that's "making a comeback" (ie. Anna Nalick's "Breathe (2AM)"), then it is likely that the agent/music rep pushed it.

I believe they are selected by unbiased means, and some are also solicited. But in Nigeria where i am form, hardly do you see people soliciting for songs cos they don't want to pay and they like cutting corners.
