Are you more likely to buy from a well designed website, or a poorly designed website?
This is a marketing question we're asking everyone to see what type of responses we can get. Best answer will be chosen!

buxinator
From a well-designed and user-friendly one. Good graphics, high security, and well-known affiliates (for shipping of products, for example) are what gain a customer's trust. People want to know that the company they are buying from is [financially] stable enough to afford good web design, they want to know that their personal and financial information is going to be handled safely and appropriately, and they want to know that they are going to get their product in due time and in one piece.

rana
Of course from a poorly designed website

davebs
A well designed website. However, there are industries (construction comes to mind) where a "cheap" looking website might be ok, because one that is particularly professional looking and complex might make the client think "here's a really good website that they put alot of thought and money into, these guys must be alot more expensive than Joe Schmoe & Sons". However, this website would still have to be "well designed" as a poorly designed website is frustrating to use and does not put across the desired information. Just my 2 cents.

scottbradentx
Respectfully, I hope you're not going to make site design decisions based on these responses.

The only votes that count are those of people who buy from you. The only way to truly answer this question is to "split-test" alternatve versions of the site.

answermonkey
Well-designed, of course. Shows there's at least thought and energy going into the process of creating a customer storefront.

As long as it's reasonable I don't pay much attention. I have made purchases from plain old sales letters with black type on a white page, in fact I did just this morinng. It's the information it conveys that's most important.

Nightwriter21
Sorry, I have to answer your question this way: Well, duh, what do you think? You must be hoping to design websites.

I don't see any really poorly designed websites any more. Everybody has a hotshot webmaster who knows what they're doing today. I order about $10K worth of goods on-line every year, from every site imaginable, and without exception, they are all good to great in every aspect.

Good luck with your survey.

enginerd
it depends on the definition of "well designed"

it would be ridiculous to claim to prefer a poorly designed website

however, "well designed" will have a somewhat different meaning for each person

for me, well designed means easy to navigate, set up for speed

my wife consider's a site well designed if it has clear instructions everywhere

my kids think well designed means that their is music and graphics accompanying everything and all that is smoothly integrated

dukalink6000
If I can't navigate the site, if things are not clear and I end up back at the home page time and again, then it sucks, I get frustrated and I'll move on to another location.

It has to be a well-designed website. I won't even buy from a site that has a misspelled word (a pet peeve of mine).

well designed. but it doesnt really have to do with layout. it has to do with rep of website
