I believe start ups require a hobbie of yours that you think could be developed into some form of a money making idea be it is cutting grass for $5 or designing websites for people or fixing computers for people for a fee, whatever you think you could make moeny from. I know a guy at Uni that sells flowers to old peoples homes and other old people events his 19 he makes $500 a week, i think so long as you are moving forwards in your business its good, starting a business is never easy its a painful process of learning from your mistakes, and being able to get up when things go wrong totally and being able to getup and face the music, i do admire your courage to take the bull by the horns and start to think of business at your age 10years from now when you are more financially secure than your peers you will be greatful you got into business early the younger you are the more risks you can take (calculated risks that is) read rich dad poor dad Robert Kiyosaki good book helped me out, also remember to write down your ideas now no matter how small or big they may not be applicable now but definately when your financial situations improves you may revisit them in the future, first you need to write down your plan revisiting it as times goes by and changing your plan you need to find a mentor someone to tell you the truth about stuff and your ideas to keep you going and to add direction however ensure the idea is yours not your mentors whatever yu decide its your passion, get back to me. |

First you need to determine what kind of business you want to start, sales or service.
If you choose service you need to consider what your talents and abilities are. If you are good at school maybe you could be a tutor. If you are good with kids you might be a good baby sitter. If you have computer skills you could be a computer tech. If you like pets than you could care for or wash peoples pets, etc.
If you choose sales the first step is to find a product that is readily available and that you can sell for about double or triple what it costs you. After you find a product then you must find a way to get it to your market. You can use the Internet with eBay or a yahoo store or it could be street fairs or other local markets or maybe crafts at a craft fair or something that you could sell at kids sporting events.
The wonderful thing about our country is that there is a lot of opportunity, just be creative. In the end the most important part of being successful is giving people something that they want that they may not be able to get elsewhere, at least not in the same way or at the same price. |

Think of all your interests & ask yourself if any of those could be expanded into a business. Just keep in mind...what's your expertise? What are your interests? What could you imagine yourself doing?
By researching the prospect of starting your own business -- what it entails, what you need to know, helpful hints, etc -- you'll feel better prepared to take that plunge.
I found some book titles that are relevant to your specific question:
* Generation, Inc: The 100 Best Businesses for Young Entrepreneurs by Elina Furman, Leah Furman
* The Young Entrepreneur's Guide to Starting and Running a Business (Completely Revised and Updated) by Steve Mariotti
* The Young Entrepreneur's Edge: Using Your Ambition, Independence, and Youth to Launch a Successful Business (Princeton Review Series) by Jennifer Kushell
* Upstart Start-Ups!: How 34 Young Entrepreneurs Overcame Youth, Inexperience, and Lack of Money to Create Thriving Businesses by Ron Lieber
I also posted some article links in the source box.
Hope that helps! I wish you much success & happiness in all your ventures! |
