Best way to submit a press release?
Hey everyone, I have a press release for a small business I recently started and I'm wondering what is the best means of submitting it. The newspaper accepts email, fax, and snail mail press releases. Has anyone had any experience with submitting one, and if so, was it used and or effective? Any other thoughts or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
I recommend PRWeb (www.prweb.com) and they can also assist you in perfecting your press release. As little as spelling and grammer checking on up to a complete overhaul. I'm told they are very inexpensive while still sending your press release out on a huge distribution network (local and international).
Don't poo-poo a press release distributor since you never know who's going to take an interest in your business and want to shine a big spotlight on it.

The easiest would be to use a press release distribution service. They can send your release for you, and for some services, even gives you tracking as to which media and websites used your release.

Make sure you send the release to the right reporter or editor. Depending on the paper, there may be someone specific for 'small business' or 'retail' for example. You can get that information from the publication or its web site.
Never, ever call to ask "did you get my release?" because writers hate that. The only time you should ever call is if you have additional (newsworthy) information to add to the original release.
The prnewswire suggestion is a good one, especially if you target geographically and/or by industry. A national release to all types of hardcopy and online publications (many who will run your release as a matter of routine) will cost $800-1000.
