The facts shatter the myths. Since first identified over 7 years ago, there have been a total of 207 human cases of bird flu, of which 155 died. That's what makes it scary, the high death toll. However, what is usually not told is that all human cases are among people who have handle sick birds during processing (ie slaughtering, gutting, plucking) and have occurred in areas wiht poor medical facilities. No cases of human to human transmission have been recorded.
If H5N1 does mutate into a form that is transmissible human-to-human, there is no guarantee that it would remain as virulent.
Lastly, the current treatment by default is Tamiflu, a drug of questionable efficacy.
Moral of the story: Don't panic. But if one wants to be a bit proactive, buying a supply of surgical masks is not a bad idea. |

avian flu...is not a marketing scheme...from the way isee it, it's more look like a sign for the end of this world
Many disease will come from something you dont expect before...i.e food, bird, cows, and other...
This case had occured before in the last century, and it killed millions of poeple worldwide...and i mean world wide...but it was suddenly diseapeared...and now it back again!!! |
