Yes, if there is a will, there is a way. Depending on your qualifications and where you are from will determine how you will be able to work in the US. There are ways that a non-US citizen can work here that not a lot of people may know about. For example, Canadians and Mexicans have privilages of working here through the NAFTA agreement... (http://www.grasmick.com/) while others from countries that have been through natural disasters are also granted a temporary visa to seek shelter and work in the US... opportunities like that can lead to something more permanent.

You don't need to be a citizen to work in US. But you need a Visa to work here legally. Find a lawyer who specialize in getting working permit will be helpful, they will find out a way to do that, but the bottom line is you have to find somebody who want to hire you or at least saying they will hire you.

The only they can work is if a company needs to hire you, the company needs to seen a letter to the government explaing why they need to hire this person. That is the only way you can work in the US, so you need to find someone that needs to hire you.

You can definetly work indepently of being a US Citizen.
You can either have a work permit or become a resident..
Or simply work as an illegal allien.. which is another story.
The questions will be what type of job do you want. and what are the chances of doing it in the States as a legal allien.
Take in consideration that many people in this country work illegally... with fake id's etc.. The New York Time had a very interesting article showing how millions of illegal immigrants work with fake id at big corporations like K-mart.. Take in consideration that those jobs even if they can pay you up to 18 dollars an hour.. don't allow for to much progress.

In this country any one can work.. But is it worthy to do it as an Ilegal immigrant.. that's anothe story
