my tips for u is
if u have new web site 50-100 backlink peer day no more and if u got those back links from realted sites will be better in the same time dont flood sites with ur backlink and dont get backlinks from strong sites as pr 6 7 and 8 while u are pr 0 that will cuz u alot of troubles 2
list ur site in all the directoires that u could list in them and the most importnet one is ODP demoz it have a great pr for internal pages and around 300 - 400 dirctoriy site is using ODP database so if u got listed in that dirctoiry thats mean u made around 300 really high backlink notice that when u got added on that site alexa will automatic list all ur site info from as owner name and site info and alot of thing cuz it got the information about any site from ODP open dirctory project
stay away from blackhat seo or u will get ur self in troubles and power ur keywords by using anchor link way thats the best way to get higher serp i think thats answer enough
and my most importnet tip is to stay away from blackhat seo as clocking and hidding words with background color etc.. thats the faster way to get banned from any search engine
edit ur title with ur keywords ur meta descrption also try to have uniqe subjects and content cuz thats make ppl link back to u and that give u more pr and more visitors dont copy and paste from other sites get fresh new stuff thats are just the begin for ur way with seo i hope my asnwers is good enough

SEO is a practise ..and practice makes a man perfact ..to try to implement thing in your site ..then see the results ...

- get inbound links for your website (link exchange,link building )
- install META code into your website after the HEAD tag
- submit your site to search engines
- submit your site to social bookmarking sites
- blog directories
-use free traffic exchanges to improve your ALEXA rankings etc.
