#1 Buckeye Fan!!!! | Can buisness cards be too big? |
I know the general size for buisness cards are about the size of a wallet photo, but if they are a little larger (2 1/2 x 3 1/2) can it be a bad thing? My husband and I are making our own buisness cards for our photography buisness and along with one of the pictures we have taken, we are wanting to include some info with it on the card, which causes it to be a little bigger. Do you think this could be a bad thing for us?

If I received a business card that couldn't fit in my wallet I'd most probably through it away.
I've seen cards that you fold, a good design on the front and content on the inside of the card - like a book. You could still put info at the back as well. So there are four 'pages' you could put info on.
Don't put too much info on though as it may be a bit overwhelming. |

Just keep the business Card simple and font size is very important (don't be too small).
Its also depend on which industry you are in, if you are too colorful then corporate company wont take you seriously. If its odd size not only it will cost you more then others might find it difficult to file it or keep it in their wallet. |

I would stick to a regular size business card. From experience in handing out & receiving business cards, If they will fit in a wallet or business card holder chances are good that they will be kept & referred to. If I have alot of info to put on a card I will tend to keep it brief & this way if you have a website & they are curious about your services, This will prompt them to look at your site and also contact you direct. |

I would think you'd want to keep it at least the standard size after all when it is given out you do want the person to hang on to it not hang it up, so go with the typical size so maybe they'll stick it in their purse or wallet, and not toss it out cause its inconvenient to hang on to, convenience for the customer is the key word, and your already deliberating in the thought process of the making of this card, so when in doubt don't stress out... |

I personally don't like odd shaped business cards and throw them away. They just bother me and I think it makes it look un-professional.

Some things have become standard for a reason, not that standards shouldn't be challenged, but challenging them solely on the "to be different" is probably a hard battle.... even if you feel your reason is warranty, it essentially is "to be different," after all, most of us have more information that we would like to put on our business cards.
Keep in mind that, as mentioned, many will take your card, in an exchange situation, give you one of theirs out of their card holder and place your's in it... and if it doesn't fit, it probably ends up in a pocket, which may also be forgotten later.
Then when they get back to the office, suddenly your card doesn't fit in their card holder with all the rest... so where do you think your card is going to end up?
The fold over could be an option, but even that has drawbacks... as it may end up in a sleeve in a card holder, which means all the info you wanted to communicate is hard to access, or simply not accessed at all.
Even cards that run the text the reading down the long way can be a pain when they get placed in a card holder. You want your card to be easy for people to access and use. You want it to be noticed and read even by accident when it pops up in someone's card holder when they were flipping through for something else... you never know when your card could spark that "maybe I should give them a call" moments.
Find the essence that you want to capture with your card... what sets you apart, or maybe better, what problem your target audience has that you solve! Let your business card tag-team with your website to deliver more information. |
