Let's say I want to buy something from a website online and I look at the testimonials. Can the people who create the website put up fake testimonials so people can buy their products?

Great Question. You bet they can put up fake testimonials and they do. But, then they don't usually grow their business very well. Someone who is interested in growing their business will have real testimonials on their website. Look the business up in the Better Business Bureau if you know what state they operate out of.
You can google the company but that doesn't always give a true picture either. Sometimes a business is trying to slam another business so will create false damaging information about the other company.
Go to some of the forums like Wikipedia or Myspace and ask others if they are familiar with the company you are interested in doing business with. |

I don't think they would admit to making it up.
Sometimes people write "REAL LIVE TESTIMONIES" to emphasize the fact (or make you think that these were real testimonies, and some people weren't bribed to write them)
Sure though, I bet there are a lot of testimonials.

of course... you see all the perfect grammar and punctuation...especially when they put an "!" after every testimonial...Your best bet is to go to a forum that discusses the product, not a biased website |

Yes it's really easy to put up a testimonial and a related web page. It should be the last thing you consider when deciding on a purchase.
If you a purchasing a service or skill look for some form of legitimate certification. I you are buying a product, check for contact details and a privacy policy.
If you are unsure about a company run it through an online community like this. |

Absolutely yes. some of that testimonials are fake and fraud. We call spam, for me i think, there is someone behind that conspiracy in order for their product to be sold. |
