Marketing is creating awareness for your product or service. Selling is generating revenue from the product or service (i.e) convincing someone that it solves their problem and worth spending money for.
Marketing activities include builing a message, creating awareness (but putting out press releases etc.), creating a brand, finding what customers need, creating a PR campaign, setting the pricing, competitive analysis, positioning the product against competition etc.
Selling activities include cold calling or answering incoming customer requests for information and questions, helping customers make buying decisions, demonstrating products, closing the sale, collecting the money etc.
In a completely web based product line, the difference gets a little fuzzy. |

marketing is the process of comeing up with the ads to place targeting whatever group you will sell to, You can have many different avenues to market your product, Television, radio, newspaper, flyers, word of mouth, and so on. Selling however is basically being the person with the product and trying to exchange the product for other goods, like cash, or other goods you think is a fair trade. |
