If they say you have already committed then yes this is a scam and I know of people who have been caught out badly - one guy paid out nearly £2000.
We had one guy ring our office several times for payment for advertising that we knew nothing about he even tried to claim he had us on tape. He hung up when our manager laughed at him.
I had one lady ring me several times to arrange payment for charity books stating they had been ordered directly by the MD and were ready for collection she even used his name - I finally told her we were just a branch and the MD was elsewhere and she went away.
Dont be fooled - just tell these people they havent followed YOUR company policy and you will not be responsible. |

If they don't have something in writing, then you have no obligation. I would tell them to put you on their "Do Not Call" list. If they continue to call after you asked them not to, you can contact the authorities. They owe you something like $50 per violation. It's really sad, too, because there are a lot of legitimate charities doing good work and these types of scams just give everyone a bad name. |

Definitely a scam. Can they prove you did? Did you sign something? Are they willing to take you to court over it?
I greatly doubt it.
Some charities DO call people, but the fact is that you should never make ANY commitment over the phone. If they can't send me something to look at before I make a commitment, then they are out of luck. |

Many "charity" phone marketing efforts are scams. Contact the group in question and let them know that you never made the contribution for which you are being charged. If they are charging a credit or bank card, immediately call the financial institution about it so that they can reverse the charge and initiate any criminal proceedings that may be appropriate. |

Even if you had said "yes" a few months ago, you can now say "no". Maybe they're lying to you, maybe they're not.
Many, not all, telephone solicitations for charity result in most of the money going to the phone solicitor's company, even if the charity is legit. |

I always ask for their name and phone number first. Then I ask them to send whatever it is they're advertising or saying your committed to, to send it by mail. Most of the time, they'll hang up and you will never hear from them again. It's worked for me. |

Simply tell them you will report them to OFCOM, that usually gets rid of them.
I had a nasty experience a few years ago, when one of these so called Charity Advert companies insisted that I had booked an advert with them, but after hours on the phone I found out that that the day they said I had spoken & booked the advert was a day I was not available anyway (I was off work & had proof) it was only when I pointed this out to them that they went quiet.
So keep on insisting that you did not book anything.

I had 5 phone calls late 2010 all saying that I had originally agreed to paying for an advertising in there magazines. I was gobsmacked didn't recall doing this but they sounded as though I had and me being me don't like letting people down. Now I'm having calls night and day and when I ask for proof of the actual magazine with my advert in it, they say it's there policy to give out proof until payment has been received. Now I'm getting bailiffs ringing me. What can I do, I can't afford to pay £195 to 5 different companies. Can anyone help me please I feel like everything is coming down on me and fightened to answer the phone please help |
