Coke and Pepsi Question?
Why is it that when I ask for Coke, I typically get "Is Pepsi alright?" Is this some sort of marketing scheme by Pepsi to take over the cola market?

It's weird because a lot of people associate soda with Coke. We say, do you want a coke, and someone can walk out with RC. :)

Also, Pepsi has started to dominate the restaurant market. Restaurants usually have only one soda company that they use (very few will sell both sides), therefore, when you ask for a coke, they are being courteous by asking you if Pepsi is satisfactory. I actually prefer Coke, and can tell a huge difference in Coke and Pepsi. I like that they ask, because then I will get iced tea! :)

No, some pubs (I'm assuming it's in Pubs) only have Pepsi OR coke, Pepsi is normally cheaper for the pubs and so that's why.

They have to ask you that, because if you ask for a Coke, and they only serve Pepsi, they are responsible for making sure you don't mind drinking what they have.

probably. but nah i think it really depends on how they're promoting/encouraging people on merchandise popularity... i have to admit though, and please forgive me as this is completely irrelevant to your question, but in some other countries, coke tastes WAY BETTER than pepsi. oh trust me i've traveled quite an awful lot throughout the years so I KNOW. however, i must say U.S. pepsi owns my vote in compared to U.S. coke:)

No it is because restaurants only carry one product or the other. they have to ask if the it is OK because some people don't mind and others do. It is not a marketing scheme it is just because they can only have a contract with one not both. Those are the rules.

It all depends on the place. Some places (like chains) have exclusive contracts with Pepsi to only serve Pepsi products. Mom & Pop places usually don't have those contracts and usually serve both.

I can't stand Pepsi, it has a bitter, nasty aftertaste. Coke tastes much better as you're drinking it, and it doesn't have a lingering aftertaste. In fact, the only Pepsi product I drink is Mountain Dew.
