lab2lal | Cold calling? |
Hi everyone, I really hope you can help me as I feel sick with worry and very upset! I have just received a phone call from a (very young and rude) girl telling me that I had been called on the 8th February about 'books for schools' or something of the like. I told her I couldn't remember her calling me at all. She said that I had agreed to having 100 books printed with my business details on the back for £350. There is absolutely no way in this world I would have agreed to that at all and the only way I would have agreed to anything is if it had been free. She then got really aggressive and said that they had a voice recording of me agreeing which I then asked to hear. She became very sullen and aggressive again saying that she'd phone back. At that point I asked for her name, she only gave me her first name and then slammed the phone down on me! Do you think this is a con or legitimate and that I now owe them £350? There is no way I would have agreed to that price! Feel quite sick :( Additional Details Thank you all for your kind responses, it's made me feel so much better. I have been out to work this morning and came online to check answers straight away because I was so worried, but you've all put my mind at rest. It was a withheld number she called on and when I asked for her surname that's when she put the phone down. My next question to her would have been what the telephone number and address was of where she was calling from.
Thanks so much again to all of you, I really appreciate the effort of you all answering. |

It's a sick con...ignore it....in any case even if you DID agree you'd still, by law have a cooling off period if it was a cold call.
Forget it, she will probably not call back and go on to a little old lady on her pension who might pay up. These people are scum and should be treated as such. If she does phone back, call her bluff, tell her you've been speaking to a lawyer friend and that he told you to say...'bring it on!' |

Sounds as if they are trying to con you into paying up for something you did not order If they ring again ask for their contact number and tell them if you hear from them again you will contact the police. that should do the trick . It is always very frightening when these things come into our own homes via the telephone. But do be firm if they telephone again. Find out her name and the company name if possible. |

Sounds like a con to me. Don't even worry about it, especially if she calls back and you ask for the proof that she can't provide. Verbal agreements mean nothing, anyway. |

A con obviously, did you get her number prome caller id or by dialling 1471? |

Don't worry, if you didn't ask for it, then they can't charge for it. Tell them to f@ck off. |

if they phone back ask to talk to their supervisor, that person might be more plesant and explain things, if you smell a scam, dont give away any personal details, ask for them to send you it in writing if they are genuine that would be no problem at all. even if they are telling the truth all you have done is agree on the phone, that means nothing. Just try and not worry about it, they dont have your card details, it sounds like a scam, when you dont give them anything they will move on to their next target. If it is genuine wait for the letter in the post and go from there, you can still refuse it, say you changed your mind, you owe them nothing. |

Hey, come on... In this world, any verbal agreement cannot be used as a medium to book a case against them. So dont worry and ignore this

Don't worry one moment longer, as i know this is a con, and one which should be wiped out. I have had exactly the same call more than once, my guess is perhaps you registered a business number with someone like yell.com and these people ring around all business numbers hoping to catch a secretary who believes a genuine order has been placed, they collect your name then invoice you in the hope this is enough to get it through accounts. I had 2 such calls saying that I had previous conversations with them which I did not, In the second call they even played a recording of children playing in the background (how sick are they). After all I am an advertising expert and I would never advertise in any magazine with a circulation of 100. They simply print a hundred of goodness knows what to legalise charging you £3.50 a copy at 95% profit. If they call again, then ask them where they would like the donation sent and pass the details to the police, Now you can relax, you owe no one anything. if you have been placing any advertisements for a business lately then you can contact me at worldwide_profit@yahoo.co.uk for details of the safest way to advertise a small business if you wish. The info is free to anyone who needs it. |

DONT WORRY!!!! Call the police station in your area. explain that you are being harassed by this woman. They will guide you through it. Dont be sick over this matter. She is in the wrong!!! A con artist that isnt very good at what she does.
I wish i could speak to this woman on your behalf. Id tell her whats what!!! People like that piss me off. Ask for her supervisor..she will probably tell you she is the manager, which will be bull. |
|

oops!!!
 |
you can ask her for the recored agreement.
if she has the prove of that, it still doesn't mean that is legal agreement. |
