I was working at a retail show, Kohls, Anyways. This women wanted to return things that were non refundable.
I told her that she can get store credit for the items. She said ok.
I gave her store credit.
5 Minutes later, My manager and the women I gave store credit to returned. The manager said what did you call her?
I said Huh?
She said you called her the B word. I said I most defiently did not.
Manager said, the customer is always right...
I said, Ok... So what now?
The manager said clock off and go home. and gave the women another 50$ in Store Credit to what she had already got.
I went home and grabbed my 3 year old. And came back to the store. Luckily she was still there. I followed her home and when she got home I said, was it worth it, when you sleep tonight make sure you know I couldnt feed my kid tonight because I lost my job.
To make a long story short. I could feed my kids. My parents are very wealthy and I work just so I am not bored.
The lady said sorry and explained everything.

When you have a difficult customer, you should always stay calm. Shouting or aggression just escalates the situation. Listen to what they are saying, talk to them and make sure they understand whatever they need to know. This should calm them down and allow them to leave the store calmly.
If that doesn't work, call security. |

At a place I used to work for, we had a rock collection. I was the graphic designer at our firm. When we had clients that were never happy, hard to please, we would go outside to rant and rave about it. While outside, we'd pick out a rock to represent that company, mark a "pet" name on it (so that if the client were in the office, they wouldn't see their name). Everyday that I dealt with that client, I would take the rock with me, scream, yell, throw it around. It was a great way to relieve stress. At the end of the project, I'd drive to a bridge, get out of my car and throw the rock as hard as I could into the water. |

The most difficult customer I had was an older woman who had an issue with a customer at the front of the line. Customer A, at the front, had somehow gotten her order separated on the conveyer belt (I'm a cashier), and the teens behind her apparently thought it was funny to watch me ring up 13 out of the 25 cans of dog food she left behind before telling me they weren't theirs. As all of our supervisors were too busy to override, I had to hand void each item.. and then customer A came back. So, I was going to simply check her out and continue. The woman in the back, customer B, threw a fit, cursing at me and the woman and saying she had already had her turn, and she needed to get the 'h' out of the store. I ended up calling the manager over who escorted customer A to the service desk while finally giving me an override so I could stop hand voiding everything and get everyone out of line in a fashionable manner. I simply avoided conversation with the -insert select word for the unsavory customer B- who had been so rude to me, and rang up all of her merchandise as quickly as possible. |
