Sometimes. Yes sometimes they are scam artists too. But usually places like phone companies and department store comission sales reps will call and try to make extra revenue. You might have sears telling you about a great siding install opportunity or window replacement from lowes. Anyways, you don't want to be talked into buying something you werent originally planning on buying. No one does. They do want to inform people of what they didnt know was out there though. If you did decide you want gutter guard installed on your home, you are intelligent enough to find just as good of an offer on your own. If they have an offer that seems too good to be true, it absolutely is. Do like my brothers and I, we mess with them. Its good improv exercise. Like "hey that sounds great, but listen for a second, I have an amazing offer for you! I have this giant 42" flat screen panasonic with picture in picture and HD. Its a steal for only 3 easy payments of 45 dollars, (pause) oh and one really tough payment of 666 dollars, cod." the object is to make them hang up as quick as possible (my record is 7 seconds) WITHOUT letting on what your intention is. |

I had a friend that used to live across the street from me that was a telemarketer. And even though so many are hung up on or yelled at or verbally cursed out and such, some actually do sell whatever they're advertizing. It's a pretty hard job and I certainly wouldnt want to do it myself. Usually now I just tell them to please take me off their list or something about the do not call registry and I don't hear from them. Although there was this one person that would not take no for an answer, and actually CALLED ME BACK when I hung up on her? And for some stupid reason, if you have yahoo then you know those little insult things in your messenger you can click on and the im's talking? I hollered "you like fat guys with no money"? and she actually stopped....I don't know if she was taken aback or what, but she didn't say a word, I simply hung up and she did not call back. I kind of felt bad about doing that but I wasnt sure if it was a real person or some automated voice thing (dont you just HATE those?) I guess she was real! Bless her heart! lol |

I don't like them either, but they do sell stuff otherwise the companies hiring there services would not do so. The only way it will ever stop completely is when no one buys from them. But in the meantime get on the "do not call list"; that will stop most but not all, the law allows politicians, charities and anyone you did business with for last 18 months. |

My youngest daughter worked for a while as a telemarketer. She was constantly verbally abused. They do "actually sell stuff", but it's really hard because most of us resent them calling us - usually during dinner. It's best to ask to be removed from their list so they won't call again. Don't be rude - they're just doing their job. |
