Congratulations on your upcoming engagement :) I think if you know her well enough to want to get married to her, you should know her well enough to know where her tastes lie. Take a look at the jewelry she normally wears, if any... is it classic/simple or artsy? That should give you a start in the right diretion. Something else you may want to consider: does she work in a profession where a big diamond could get damaged or otherwise in the way? Last thing you'd want is that big, EXPENSIVE rock to be lost because it came out of its prongs. Good luck!!!!! |

Diamonds are good - the bigger the stone - the more jealous her friends are - remember that! ;) LOL.
As far as a big diamond on a loop or an intricate piece of art, i'd say go for something that is tasteful, refined, beautiful and fits her personality! The first time i got engaged, my fiance at the time found a gorgeous ring that had little sunflowers etched into the band - sunflowers were my favorite flower at the time and also his nickname for me. The stone wasn't huge, but that ring meant more to me than a big ole ugly diamond b/c he found something that suited my personality. Hope that helps! Good luck and congrats! :) |

I know I had definite ideas about what I liked and didn't like. My boyfriend (now hubby) took me casually shopping when we were at the mall and just "happened" to be near a jewelry store. We looked at a bunch of different things, not just engagement rings. Then 6 months later when he finally asked me, he knew exactly what I wanted. I hadn't even really remembered the stop at the jewelry store until I saw the ring and knew it was "THE RING" that I had really liked at the store. The one I got is just over a carat with six little diamonds on the corresponding wedding band. I didn't fall in love with the size of the diamond specifically, it was the whole set and the way the engagement ring fit with the wedding band that was important. |

I know that I'm not a very materialistic person and I'd rather have a nice piece of art than a diamond ring. I'm also a painter so, maybe that's just me.
I also think a piece of art is something that would be more apreciated than a ring.
When a woman gets a ring all she does is flaunts it with her friends and they talk about who's diamond is bigger.. |
