Sometime Yes. But it is the moral duty of the advertiser to evince the actual benefits. Advertising is just a peripheral activity which will push first time sales. but to get a sustainable revenue growth the rational & functional benefits need to be communicated to the buyer. This helps in tranforming a product into a brand and brand into a ikon.
But most of the companies fail to do so , they just concentrate on the asthetics of the prodcut and push it through some celebrity endorsements which results in a cyclic change in the brand ambasador b'coz brand goes down if celebrity does so.

No. Advertisements correlate with the PERCEIVED quality of the products. If people THINK something is a good product, they will buy it. (at least the first time) Getting the consumer to buy the product more than once correlates with the ACTUAL quality of the product.

An advertiser has to highlight the benefits of the product they are advertising. If they can't find benefits, or be confident in their statements, they won't be able to write convincing advertising copy. If they can't convince themselves, they won't convince others.
