I don't think commercials ever get their desired outcome on me except on a new promotion at a restaurant. Clothese commercials, car commercials, oil company commercials, pet food commericals, computers, televisions, appliances, banks (other than WAMU) never seem to make me want to purchase something. How about you? |

for products that that usually have low brand loyalty, such as batteries ...
many consumers typically do not prefer one brand over another, but when you are at the store buying batteries and you have multiple brands to choose from, your subconcious will remind you how funny/cool the energizer bunny is and you might just reach for the energizer batteries, simply because you have no other factors that aid in your decision of what brand to purchase...you just want some batteries!
so in a lot of cases, commercials affect people w/out them even knowing it sometimes... |

The commercials let me know that there is a new product out that I may not have known about otherwise. I don't say I have to have that because of the commercial but it may make me go to the store to check it out. |

its called branding - they play their message enough and you rememer it .
advertising spends millions of dollars researching what works and for who. if they are not working fo ryou - you are probably NOT their customer.
For example, when was the last time you paid any attention to an ad for female napkins - exactly - they are not speaking to you, because you are not their target audience.
However, the next time you are in the store take a look at a box of Kotex ( white with teh bright red flower on it ) - not a big deal right? you could care less.
But think about a young lady just getting her period - what is she concerned about - spotting! or having someone know. Pretty embarrasing right?
Look at the kotex box again - rather than a white box with a red flower, can you now see it as a pair of underwear with a spot on it.
VERY POWERFUL!
Don't loose sleep over the advertisers, they know how to get inside your head, if and when they need to. |

In some cases, to the exact contrary...
I hate pop up ads, spam and ads that force themselves upon you. I will not buy that product.
Additionally, I personally boycott any product that supports porn sites, puts up annoying ads on the web or supprts a television show I find particularly offensive. |

No. I don't watch television so I never see commercials. I do believe commercials have messages that cause people to think they need to have more things all the time and/or what they do have is not "new and improved" enough. |
