Do you think a business card that has a solid color?
What do you think about a business card that has a solid red background with off white typed letters?

Or a solid black back ground and red typed letters?

Wich one would attract more people?
Or get more sales?

White on Red or White on Black...

Red on Black is too hard to read.

Good luck.

Having designed 100's of business cards,
I'll give you some advice.
The message is far more important than the colors.
Why? Because this is something you will hand out, mostly in person, to a potential customer.
What they will remember is what you tell them.
Make sure the card has all the important contact info so they can reach you. In 35 years of advertising, I never had someone make a sale off a business card.
Instead of a solid color, have a terrific color picture as the background. Have it mean something and tell a story.
Like your product, etc. Make the type readable.
Black, red, white: it doesn't matter.
Make a good impression and sell yourself.
Good luck.

Solid red background with White typed letters.
Black back ground with red typed letter would really make it hard to read the letters.

Or, I suggest, a white background with red letters on it. Hope that helps.

Red background with off white letters would show up better and pop out at people. Black background and red letters would make it harder to see the details on the card. Red is a vibrant color while black is a dark color.

I would think it would be determined by the type of business you're in. If these are your only choices, I'd go with the black background...red is too flashy in my opinion.

I own my own business and I would say the black background with red letters ... or maybe a red background with black text. I think this would be your best bet. I don't use solid colors. I order my business cards for free with backgrounds, but if I were the customer .... I would definately say black and red colors. If you are interested in other options then you can order free business cards from www.vistaprint.com. You can design them yourself and all you pay for is shipping. I have been using them for years and have been very pleased with their work and discount offers.

Good Luck

In all reality neither one would be a good choice. The problem with business cards that don't have a good color contrast is being able to read the message easily. Either that or use bold enough print to keep it clear when looked at briefly. This is not something that someone should have to study to get the message. Either back ground would be fine if the print color has enough contrast.

the black card wiht red text colour is eye catching

OP
With all the flash that's come out with business cards, simple is best. I would go with your first suggestion. Lighter font on darker background is easier to read. The red background being dominant catches the eye faster than black and isn't as easily misplaced. It also depends on the line of business you're in. And keep it simple as possible with easy-on-the-eye graphics. You can put more details on the back of the card if you want but leave some space for a note.
