Personally I think Ebay is a rip-off. They have so many charges, and I don't like the buying enviornment. http://www.tratosnow.com/exchange.html was a good substitute for me and it is free. I like buying and selling there.
If you have a small volume if things that you need to sell and it is priced low, it does not make much sence to use it. If you have low volume but high price items, then it is ok. A lot of people have huge volumes at very low prices, like cell phone car charges, leather cases, etc. Thease are popular items and it will be sold no matter what. That is why they have such a big feedback.
I use eBay a lot. For buying and selling. So far it was good for me. Also I use Yahoo auctions for free and also www.craigslist.org. It is free too.

You can get some fantastic buys there. Never buy electronics though.,it is much better to buy new at a store that will service and back with warranty. There are crooks operating in ebay .Selling items that say" as is " or any similar wording. Often the item has missing parts or does not work. You have no repercussion because they have worded the ad in this way.

I have used ebay for both buying and selling for about 4 years and I think it's awesome. They may take alot of fees but where else can you put an item up for sale to the entire nation or world? I sell alot of vintage guitars on ebay and If were to run an ad in the local newspaper it would cost almost $50.00 and I would be lucky if I got a single response from it. Ebay is a great indicator of what something is truly worth. I would avoid some of the other auction sites like the plague since many of the sellers on other sites are people that ebay threw off because of fraudulent activity. I'll give you an example of a recent ebay sale of mine. I put a semi vintage bass on ebay and ended up getting 26 bids and the final selling price was $2845.00. I payed ebay and paypal approximately $140.00 for that listing and it was worth every penny since It would have cost me $50.00 to list it with the local newspaper and I probably would have only gotten a single offer for around $1800.00.
