SEO does work, but I also agree with the original response that no one can guarantee top placement. Anyone that does, doesn't know SEO and is only after your money.
Before hiring any SEO, it's best to learn more about it, so you can determine whether it is best to have an inhouse SEO, or outsource the services.

SEO is no myth. In the vast majority of cases, the ONLY reason why a website is on page 1 is because of search engine optimisation.
One example: We did SEO on the website holidaydeals.net.au in July 2006. Prior to this, the website had NO traffic from organic SEO, only Pay Per Click Listings, costing the owner $850 per month.
Today, the website gets 500 unique visitors per month and costs the owner nothing!
Previously, the only keyword it would rank with was holidaydeals.net.au, the sites URL. This was useless, as nobody is going to type that into a search engine.
Today, it ranks first page in Google for the term "redcliffe accommodation", "redcliffe holidays" and "redcliffe vacations" among many others. In Yahoo and MSN, it ranks #1 and #2 in the world for the term "holiday deals", a keyphrase that Yahoo counts as having 97 million competing web pages!
I think one can safely say that Search Engine Optimisation is no myth. |

SEO is certainly no myth, SEOs have the popularity of Search Engines for thank to the almost seemingly 'gaming' of the system of them, if there was no traffic to be gained from good rankings on search engines then SEO probably wouldnt exist.
Just take a look at how George W Bush at the website of the Whitehouse ranked no.1 on Google for 'Miserable Failure' even though those words wernt even mentioned on the page. It was the power of links to the page with the word 'miserable failure' in them that made the site rank no.1

SEO techniques do work, especially on Google and Yahoo.
Here's an example of a very highly-placed website on
Google.com: Begin with the very "generic" search query
"sandwiches downtown los angeles," taking note to not
abbreviate Los Angeles to "LA" and of course, leave
out the parentheses ("). It will bring up some 2.4
million+ search results. Check out where "Nazos.net"
is ranked. It's on the SECOND FRONT [ranked 15]!
Again, Nazos.net's high web presence was achieved by
proper web design and placement of relevant metatags
according to Google's publication guidelines.

I've been web designing for some 13 years now, and though there are a lot you can do using meta tags and trading links and such to boost your rankings in the search engines, promises by these SEO experts that they can guarantee top ten listings in days is BS.
There's only one way to be in the top ten; longevity, plenty of traffic, or plenty of cash.
Don't get suckered into paying money to these so called SEO experts. Just read up on meta-tags and key words, plenty of free info out there - do a google search. |
