It may not, but it's still worth it. Here's why:
1. You get a link from a well-known directory. That can help you gain rankings in unpaid search results.
2. Many other directories 'scrape' the Yahoo directory, so chances are you'll show up in other places, too. |

It won't get you a lot of direct traffic but it will give you a lot of authority in the eyes of Google and help with their organic rankings. They look at how serious you are about promoting your site and they know that if you pay that kind of money you are not trying to build a fly by night company. This is a high authority link.
Google even looks at the renewal time of your domain. If you bought it for only 1 year you are not serious. Buy it for at least 2 years.
The yahoo directory inclusion is the first step I take in promoting a new site. In only 1 year I have achieved high organic rankings at Google for my website: http://www.babydirect.com
Just search Google for some popular keywords like: Baby, baby furniture, baby stores, diaper bags, baby cribs and you will see it in the top 10.

There are many ways to market a small business on the web. You can buy banner ads, text links, or use PPC. However, the best way is to get listed in a bunch of portals. Portals and directories are like phone books, and they often provide a lot of traffic because they tend to rank high on Google.

Spend your time and energy with keywords; use the exact keywords whereby folks are searching for your particular item or product. Long term it will pay off and you will get organic traffic as opposed to advertising all the time. Learn all you can with Wordtracker and start out with the free version for a week. I thought about advertising my site in the Yahoo Directory, but I stopped because I felt the price was too much to put all my advertising dollars in one place. So, I checked around with some successful webmasters, and found out what they use.
They recommended some software that will submit your site to search engines, find the best keywords for you and optimize your site for high page rankings.
Its called Web CEO and I use it for all of my websites, and the most valuable thing it has done for me besides submitting to all the major search engines (for free), has been the keyword optimization. With this tool the search engine bots find me and send me relevant traffic based on my keywords.
Just yesterday I saw evidence of that as Google sent me 500 unique visitors within 6 hours after posting.
You can download a free edition (I use this one) or you can pay $199 for the full version. This has probably been the most valuable software I have that helps me with everything.
