Does anyone have any advice on advertising on the internet?

I am a Avon Independent Representative. I have a Avon website. Could anyone give me advice on how to get new customers to order on-line?

What do you need to do to get people to buy from your site? Drive qualified traffic (visitors and future customers) to your site. And there are a lot of ways to do that. The first thing I suggest you do is check with Avon wrt what the company will allow you to do. Many direct selling and network marketing companies have restrictions on what you can do as a distributor.

A first basic of advertising is to go where your customers are. Who are customers of Avon? Women. Where do women hang out on the internet? All over - but particularly on sites of interest to women. What women buy cosmetics from brands like Avon online? You'll need to find that out yourself but I would think one good possibility would be busy, work-at-home moms.

So the first thing to do is figure out who your ideal customer is. If you discover that WAHMs are a good group of prospective customers for you there are lots and lots of different resources sites to help these ladies in a myriad of ways.

In the old days of the Internet banner ads were the way to go. You can still buy banner ads. They are generally inexpensive for a site like this. Some people swear by them and other people say they're pretty much useless. But it's worth trying if it's inexpensive. Have a virtual assistant put one together for you if you don't know how.

There are a lot of marketing strategies online that don't fall into the category of "advertising" which is about paying for advertising "space" - but they are about getting the word out. You can write articles, post them on article sites like http://www.ezinearticles.com or http://www.isnare.com and people who need articles (content) for their website or newsletter get them and use them. There's a rule that the person who uses an article like that has to include a resource box at the bottom (which you write - about 40 words) including a link to your site.

If you want to try article marketing write fairly short articles - no more than 800 word in length is what most websites and newsletters are looking for.

Make the focus not on how great Avon is - which comes across as an advertisement - but related topics like how to take better care of yourself as winter is coming, how to dazzle and shine for the holidays, how to pare your makeup routine down to five minutes flat and look great. Think the kind of articles that are seen in women's magazines. They might mentions a product - but the article isn't about a product.

Another tip which falls into marketing - but not advertising - and will drive traffic to your site - get involved with online business networking. My favorite site is Ryze at http://www.ryze.com but there are others. I like ryze because people post, get to know each other and help each other. Most other networking sites I've visited are set up that way - but it just doesn't seem to work. It seems like just a lot of people all trying to sell each other. Direct Matches is one example, IMHO.

Since you're local, the ideal place to advertise is Craigslist. They have sites covering most cities. http://www.craigslist.org Simply lool to the right and locate where you're selling and place a free ad located on the top left.

You need to learn to market online. The best is to make splash pages, and advertise them all over the internet. Traffic Exchanges, websites where you can post ads, and direct all of them to your splash pages. A splash page just has a headline, an offer, usually free, and a sign-up box. The idea is for you to capture email addresses, and make yourself a list. Then you can email your list periodically with special offers, and direct them to your site. I hope this helps.
