Realty companies are always looking for a gift to give their new buyers.

My favorite and it worked was... Giving out flyers but here's the notion that got everyone hooked. I told them "Here you throw this away." Simple reverse psychology. And so the event that I was advertising drew more than half of the 700 flyers I had handed out. Now here's the other catch I was presenting it to college people. And they came to the concert that I was throwing and paid the money too.

If it is really good, it will take off like word of mouth - ben & jerry's?
or a catchy slogan - do you yahoo?
or a successful person behind you - bill gates?
then again you can always play the lottery

Well, several things that come to mind are things I want to do. The first one being make up flyers on the PC and posting them in places that allow you to hang them up, such as a local bank or credit union, a pharmacy, supermarket and the like. The second one, and the one that will come to reality is buying postcards and passing them out at all of the visitor information centers local to me. Gotprint.com has 5,000 postcards for $99. For me, this would be perfect to have one of my pictures on the face of the card and my website and information on the back. While it may be different for you, it's still a road to think about. 5000 opportunities for you to draw attention to your business and they can be placed everywhere. Depending upon your line of work, you could leave them in places such as laundromats, supermarkets, even bingo halls. Provided the design is enough to catch someones eye, it would be a great investment, IMO. They have a number of other items to offer as well. I learned about them in a different forum where I buy my pictures from.

Good luck.

Makes a huge difference of the type of business your in. Think about who your targeting and where the most will see it. Fliers on the street, in restrants/business, bill boards paintings signs on barns, silo (I am a country boy) near a busy hwy or road. Do things at major events where people will see and remember you. And if your from a small town get involved wit the public the word of mouth is very good

Have you thought about pay per click programs? The two biggest, I think, are Yahoo! and Google

A few free resources – check out the sources box for links:

1) Create a blog pertaining to your field

2) Use Yahoo! Local & Yahoo! Groups – Be sure to read the TOS for each one!

3) Write articles pertaining to your field and/or expertise.

Also, consider signing up for an affiliate program. These programs enable you to advertise on other's sites (your affiliates) and once a sale is made to you, your affiliates & the program are paid a commission.

I listed a few handy sites & articles relating to marketing, promotion & advertising. Here are some book titles that are relevant:

* 301 Do-It-Yourself Marketing Ideas: From America's Most Innovative Small Companies by Sam Decker
* Off The Wall Marketing Ideas: Jumpstart Your Sales without Busting Your Budget by Nancy Michaels, Debbi J. Karpowicz
* Guerrilla Marketing for Free: Dozens of No-Cost Tactics to Promote Your Business and Energize Your Profits by Jay Conrad Levinson
* Entrepreneur Magazine's Ultimate Small Business Marketing Guide: Over 1500 Great Marketing Tricks That Will Drive Your Business Through the Roof by James Stephenson

Hope that helps! I wish you much success & happiness in all your ventures!

Where are you trying to direct people to? A phone number, website, address?

What kind of business is it?

An automotive business would do well handing out promotional key chains, however, that might not work as well as a Chiropractic clinic.

Focus on what you want the person to do once they receive your marketing piece.

Promotional products work great, they're inexpensive, and give you a low cost-per-exposure with a message that keeps on going.

Host a meeting of work-at-home moms at a local library with a realistic sales pitch, "How To Improve Your Work Life", fliers in the library two weeks before your meeting. Be prepared to answer all their questions, be real and honest or word-of-mouth disatisfaction can kill you.

Depending on who you are trying to target. I have always got involved in the community programs. Chamber of Commerce, Lions Club, National Exchange Club, Rec. Center, Churches although is a low form of marketing. But just getting involved with the community and letting people know what you do and make sure they can't do it with out you.

I saw a story on using farm animals to advertise - Could we adopt this to the city by putting advertising on jackets made for our pets? Nothing draws attention quicker than a cute pet. Done properly this could be inexpensive and extremely successful! Robert
