Does it mean much to be listed in the first pages of Google, yahoo, msn and so on? I am working on moving my site http://www.pozgroup.com to the first pages of popular search engines. However, some one told me that does not mean much. Is that right?

If this isnt a plug for your website, then let me answer your question. It absolutely helps your site to be listed on the first page of search engines. If someone types in STD Support or something of that nature, then they wont look through 15 pages of results if the first one listed answers all their questions. Many companies who offer website support/help/design, etc, will tell you that they will submit it to the search engines for you-and they charge you for it. Well my friend, this service is FREE, so dont make them charge you, you can do it yourself. What will take a little cash is Search Engine Optimization. It involves a few things, but within a little while, depending on the topic, the search engine, and continuous work, you can get up to the top of your search results. You can also do pay per clicks, which is something a little different, but can get you up to the top a lot faster. |

Nothing could further from the truth. Since people can't just walk in to your location as they would offline, they have to find you via these mechanisms.
The advantge there is that hundreds of millions can find you based on the on-page actions you take and the off page actions that lookers take once they visit and leave your site.
It's only important to be listed if you got there by way of quality content ,written for every day lookers (humans).
If you're not there that way, then you are spinning your wheels. Being found and indexed by the large Search Engines is like life blood.
Keep ypou content fresh and good, and keep the lookers (humans) happy.
In closing...yes you want to be first all of the important keywords, and purely due to superior infromative and bit size content.

Hi Mary,
It really depends on the area your website covers. If it was say electrical products, or cheap flights to france then yes, you would need to be in the first 10-20 results.
However in your area where let's be honest, people are likely to want to read as much information as possible, I don't think you have a problem being listed on page 3-5 of results.
The key thing is to make sure your description tag is written properly because when the results come up, this is what people read before deciding whether to click on the link. Often people will scan the Search Engine results and decide from the descriptions that nothing is relevant to their query.
Lastly, you will find that a growing amount of your traffic will come from sources other than Search Engines, so keep answering questions on relevant forums, submitting articles to Ezines and yes, adding well optimised SEO'd pages based around Keyword Phrases to your website.
Search Engines like to see sites which are growing with additional content being added. Just by doing this you will find your pages start being ranked higher. So keep doing what you're doing and you will see your traffic growing.

Do you think it's better to be listed on the firs page of for example Google or Yahoo or on the 5th? Of course it makes a difference. But you shouldn't only think about page ranking. It does a lot to you, but you should also consider doing other things to increase your web site traffic. I got some tips on my page to so feel free to visit it at : http://www.caniberich.net
You will need to do some research on generating targeted trafic to your website. it shouldn't be too hard. I would advise you to join, http://www.warriorforum.com , you won't believe how much valuable info you can find there about internet marketing strategies...
