Well remember what happened to Taiwan when they choose the strategy of low quality to achieve low prices, they lost customers confidence in their products.

On the other hand China used another strategy to acheive cost leadership world wide they used mega production strategy. Production increase then cost decrease and vise versa. They are now invading the international markets.

There is another example of another strategy, it is in the soft drinks industry. New companies due to the aggressive competition introduce their products in a form huge discount or certain promotion (buy 2 get 2 free) that attracts customers to try their product. Therefor if the product is good customers will buy it if not or equal to competetors then here comes customer loyality to certain brands.

A low price could mean low quality, but not always. A low price could be assigned to an object because it is plentiful of unpopular. In certain communities and stores, prices are marked down as a sign of poor quality, but a simple inspection of the product can usually tell the difference. A store that breaks all rules is the "dollar store". It is cheap, but the products aren't all bad. Basically, if it is a big name store, mark-down usually isn't bad, and smaller stores are variable based on location and population.
