I get that too, and the donotcall list doesn't help with that annoyance. The list does work, because I don't get any more calls from telemarketers, however, for that annoyance, it doesn't work.
Changing your number probably won't help either, since its automated, and its just dialing every phone number possible. I really hope they find out who is doing it, because if I do, I will go and smash the persons equipment, cut the lines, and then beat him down, because getting phone calls at 3am isn't fun.

If lots of telemarketers are calling you then you are probably giving out your phone number too frequently, to people you meet and to people online. if you are listed on the NDNC list then they are illegal in calling you UNLESS you visited their website or gave them your phone number. Sometimes the callers come from your business license, from your drivers license, from any email and such you've signed up for, from your credit card companies, or from things like the newspaper that you have ordered, and in the fine print of what you did approve of there was something you forgot to uncheck in that in any contract companies say "you agree to accept calls or contact from us and our affiliates"...so the people calling you could be their affiliates.

If the calls are coming from the US then the US had laws against some of the actions telemarketers take. You can write your state's Department of Agriculture or Complaint line and complain against the callers. To get them to stop you need to actually talk with the telemarketer, get their name and address and phone number of the company they are calling from and the time they called and what exactly they were selling (and turn that in)...You also MUST tell the caller that (after you get all their info) that you want them to remove you from their list. Eventually after you tell several of them will those calls stop. I usually tell them they are outright illegal in doing what they are doing and ask them to remove my name from their lists. Telemarketers are bound by law to review the lists of number on the NDNC list prior to making any calls (or their supervisors must run a tape into their automated calling equipment).

Now some copanies have overseas people making the calls. It is their owners who have not even tried to comply with the law because they think they are exempt. the caller doesn't know the laws they are only calling to get paid. I usually ask for their manager and explain our law to them.
Usually they are owned by americans. Still I report them.

I have a shut off on my phone (one of the older phones) and when I don't wish to be disturbed I use that function. If you have a recorder, a recorder is for the purpose of shutting out calls you don't want to get. So you already own the function that ignores them. So I don't understand why their calls still bother you.

If you are only getting a "beep" it could be coming from your electric company. If you have the save electricity function when the system switches to "save electricity" your phone will beep and even maybe your printer will start up automatically. I used to get the beep all the time during the night and it woke me up. Yeah, it was the electric company doing that.

Yes, it does work. Make sure you put all of your numbers on the site as they are starting to call cell phones which not only is annoying but uses up your minutes.

You may get one or two calls, but it will cut down on them dramatically !!

I used to get calls every evening during dinner and up to 9PM. I registered with nonotcall.gov, and the calls stopped shortly thereafter.

The service will not stop people who are looking for donations (or votes), but that's a small percentage compared to the amount calls I used to receive.

The system does not apply to businesses with whom you already have done business. For instance, if you had windows replaced, the window company is allowed to call and solicit more business from you.

You can report solicitors who ignore the do not call list - I reported Sprint at least twice before they got the message.

Good Luck!

Yes, this number works. Here's the catch. A company can not sell your number to another company for marketing purposes once you have registered on that site. So no additional calls should occur. However, if you are already doing business with a company they can call you. That means credit cards, stores, loans, etc.

If you get a call from a telemarketer, simply interrupt them politely and tell them "I am not intereseted at this time and please remove me from your list.". By law they are supposed to stop calling you and not sell your name to other companies. Depending on the state you live in you may be able to get a fixed financial penalty payment ($100, $500) from the company if they call you again. There may also be a state do not call list in your area, try that also.
