Door to door salesmen.why are you so negative towards us ??
being a salesman for the last 15 yrs i can assure you that the products i have sold(mobile phones, gas, electric etc)would be beneficial to the vast majority of you who are overspending.people think they are being clever with there aggressive attitude towards us.only people in this country (uk)seem to have this negative attitude.open your mind and listen to us we save you money.can anybody shre my frustration?

I do understand where you are coming from. It must be frustrating if you have a product that will benifit people, but they are not willing to listen to you.
I think door-to-door salesmen have been stereotyped due to the minority who exploit people (especially o.a.ps) and those who are selling illegally. There have also been so many stories of faulty products and scams that the public have become dubious of the whole concept.
With the internet etc...so readily available, and working families not having the time to listen, people are more comfortable doing their own research, as opposed to hearing a "sales pitch"
If the service you are providing is benificial to the individual, arrange a more convenient time to discuss things further, leave them some literature, or even just a calling card.
I think that the attitude comes from the fact that people want to be left alone at the end of their working day or at the weekend to relax and enjoy quality time with friends and family, and salesmen on your doorstep makes this quite difficult.

Because you people knock the door at odd times. You never come with an appointment. You consider yourself smarter than the housewives. You have never been able to convince us that you really help us to save money and 100s of such other reasons

cos if i wanted to buy something i'd go to a shop.

most of society is poor can afford your product,
the other part social status acceptance wont let them lower to make quick decision.

forgive media and people for the preception.
offer people second chance to call you back they will!

Because you invade our privacy. If I want to buy something I will go and look for it. Oh, and just for the record, you DONT usually save us money. You only believe you do because your employers brain wash you into believing you do.

(Guess I'm not going to get 10 points for best answer with this one - lol)

if i wanted any goods id go buy them when i wanted to and not when a door to door salesman tries his hardest to get a sale. try getting a decent job like the rest of us!!

Door to door sale persons lack one very important item, an invitation and that makes them an uninvited, often unwelcome guest who is intruding on one’s personal time. If you want respect you must earn it and the way to do that is to schedule an appointment. Further more the truth is that in today’s world there is less ethical behavior demonstrated with * and hidden costs and other less than crystal clear obvious tactics that we consumers must first be skeptic. Not to mention having a stranger in your home is no longer safe for the family.

It’s nothing personal and I’m certain there are some decent honest sales persons but unfortunately the buying public has been ripped off one too many times to dish out free unearned trust. Which reminds me, would you be interested in a watch I am selling that *might be worth thousands one day?

*Statement is no guarantee that watch will appreciate to any certain value; no refunds nor rights are assumed to buyer from seller. Additional costs may apply including a monthly membership cost plus applicable taxes; buyer agrees to assume all responsibility for maintenance and malfunction.

I'm always polite to door to door salesmen but I never buy from them.

I feel as if my privacy is being invaded when I open the door to a total stranger who is trying to sell me something which I don't think I need or want.

Everyone else who comes to my house is either a personal friend or is delivering something that I am expecting (milk, post, parcels etc.)

I have already arranged to stop telesales and leaflet drops for similar reasons - I simply do not want unsolicited phone calls, adverts or sales reps.

The inconvenience of being unnecessarily interrupted is a small part of my grievance.

If I think I need something I'll watch TV adverts, surf the net or just go to the shops.

I take your point that I might be missing out but my privacy is more important to me.

I know my attitude is unhelpful to you but I can't help how I feel.

All the best.

Generally we're annoyed that you call at tea-time, when Eastenders is on, or when we're busy doing something else. To be quite frank, if I want to buy something, I'll go to the shops.

It's because turning up unannounced and unrequested at a person's home is an invasion of privacy and basically rude. Your deals may be honest and save money, but if you haven't been asked for it is really irritating - just like unsolicited marketing phone calls. That being said, people shouldn't be agressive with you, but just firmly say 'no' and ask you to leave - if you then push it and keep trying, well, you would deserve what you get.

One other thing. As a woman who lives alone I would find it very unnerving to have a man turn up on my doorstep trying to sell me something and would certainly never let him in to discuss a product.

Door to door salesmen, like telephone salesmen, are a pest.

Away With The Fairies
It's because you're unsolicited and unwanted. And it's not just the UK - I lived and worked in Australia and had many a door slammed in my face!

Normally you knock on the door when im in the bath. By the time i get to the door to answer it your gone. Whats all that about?

Sorry you feel that way, but I would never buy anything from someone at my front door. Cold calling, at best, is a real nuisance and at worst, it can be threatening. It's the same with telesales. It's never a convenient time to call, so don't! If I want to buy a mobile phone, I think about it and consider it beforehand, then I go and buy the best product for me.

If you come to my door and try to sell me a mobile phone when I'm NOT thinking of buying one, you're wasting your time! It's irritating. And it can't be an effective way to sell, surely?

Beacuse it is cheaper bought from the web and secondly, when I get home I want to relax, not have pressure put on me !!
