In the answers received so far, the consensus is during working hours. Follow up question: assuming that consumers shop more during working hours, is it possible to narrow it down further? What would be the best time during working hours: (a) upon first arriving at work (9 AM, say), (b) first break of the day (say 10:30 AM), (c) during lunch (say 12-1 PM), right after lunch upon returning to work (say 1:00 to 1:30), or (d) later in the day. It really depends on the product. With the literally hundreds of products I have marketed with sophisticated tracking and info resources.....most are from 9 to 11 and 2 to 4....others are form 8pm to midnight.
It really varies greatly but a majority are during biz hours and weekends.

It probably depends more on what you're selling than a catch all time. If it's a business related service it could be that the morning, when researching for an afternoon meeting, is best for purchases and click throughs. However, if it is a consumer product unrelated to work it may be right after lunch when people are sluggish and not too motivated to work on a full stomach.
Use Google Trends for your particular keywords to find information. Other tools like WordTracker or Keyword Discovery could help. Plus using the analytics from your pages will provide good answers to these questions. |

Don't know for sure but I would think between 9 pm and 2 am, these are the hours when people with buying power have their kids in bed and few hours to browse and do their shopping |

Personally I'd say it would be just before starting work and at the end of the lunch hour. Agree with other posts that also depends on product and time zones. Also depends if people are regular users of a shopping site eg ebay or amazon, or if they already know what they want to buy- that may mean they only have to have a quick surf and then sign in to purchase, otherwise longer searches and browsing may be saved for after work. |

I tend to have the most success on eBay when I list my items to END on Sunday. Most people start WATCHING my items between 10 AM and 5:30 pm during the week, and then I pick up more last minute watchers when, I assume, they have leisure time on the weekends. I always get more bids with items ending on the weekend.
My guess is that people will buy or book more whenever they have more access to an internet connection. |
