Anyone know? | EXTRA-LOUD TV advertisements....are the advertisers shooting themselves in the foot? |
I mean...surely they must know the majority of us now have A/V setups, that encompass lots of nice, high bandwidth speaker configurations...
...and that therefore, their previously already loud advertisements, will now be BLASTING during each program break.
Now, in my home, the girlfriend, or I will immediately reach for the mute button on the amplifier - and it stays that way until the program begins once more.
So...they miss their opportunity to promote their product.
And...we get 5 or 7 mins of peaceful quiet.
Can I be the only one to see the result as a waste of money? |

Henry Ford said 50% of advertising is wasted, but which half?
Today I would say 80% of TV ads are money down the drain because few people see them as channel hopping starts with the ads or like your goodself the mute is so handy on the zapper.
It is a big industry,I was once in it,each ad, each agency, tries to be different, but being like lemmings, they all follow current trends and noise is in.
When they realise that the best ads are quiet, suttle, funny, original and grab the viewers atttention they may get a better return.
It worked 30 yrs ago. |

It depends how many people do that. I suppose a lot of people will just get up and make a cup of tea, so the advertisers are probably trying to make sure you can hear it from the kitchen.
Mind you, I have to say I'll never buy Cillit Bang with that loud mouthed w*nker on the ad. |

Good Point! I immediately reach for the mute as well.
WHY do they do this...it is so freaking annoying! |

I think you are right. The advertisers are shooting themselves in the foot by doing this. I read somewhere recently (in a UK newspaper) that advertising being louder than the programme is going to be stopped...but I'm not holding my breath.
The advertisers must also get a bit sick of people using Sky who rewind bits of the programme and then fast forward through the ads. Oh, how my heart bleeds... |

i never listen to adverts. they are loud flashy garbage. stuff like sheilas wheels should have a health warning. so yippee for the mute button. |

Yes I know what you mean inbetween the programme BOOM ear drums pieced. I think I am gonna start hitting the mute button. I usually flick until the programme is back on. |

I was born in Glasgow but now live in Brazil. Here it is
possibly worse than anywhere else. I just stopped watching
TV a long time ago but I am an early sleeper and early riser,
and my wife is the other way around! So, I am often deprived
of my beauty sleep by a babbling man advertising the George
Foreman grill. This ad would awaken the dead, so I have warned my wife to go mute and read sub-titles if she wishes
to continue with the two digital TVs in the house! Selfish?
Yes, I suppose I am, perhaps even a little out of balance,
but one fact that I have noticed is that the soft slow gentle
speaking ads sell better than the shouting or fast speaking ones. So I ask myself, why is it this way. The answer is
that these crazy ads sell well to the masses, whereas the
sweet soft spoken sell to middle class up.
But the lower classes can‘t afford a decent TV service?
The input comes from clandestine lines (pirate) wired all
over and in between paid services! And these folk love to
buy what they can‘t afford, so they pile into sellouts and pay
in 24 or 30 monthly payments. So the message has to come
fast, loud and clear from kitchen to bedroom. This keeps the
lower levels of the economy churning. If in the UK it is bad,
imagine here in Brazil? Laws, yes they exist. But how can you enforce them where the politicians depend on this very
fact to be heard for what they are promising, but few perform.
It is a world media problem, and as long as there are people
willing to put up with this junk TV - you will continue to be
the eternal victim and I am sorry to have given up fighting
the trend. Sorry pal, change your girlfriend or keep quiet! |
