Effectiveness of door to door sales?

anybody have experience doing door to door sales? i was wondering if that is effective?

The hardest door to open is your car door.

It was the hardest job I ever had, the most fun when money is being made, the worst ever when I had a bad week.

As with all sales, 20% of the employees make 80% of the money. Reality is 5% make 70% and the rest fight over crumbs.

I've never done it, but I will tell you that I NEVER open the door if I don't know the person knocking. So you would make nothing from people like me who value their privacy and are cautious about their safety. Do you know how many rapists are just let in the door because they knocked? No thanks. Just because someone is knocking doesn't mean I am obligated to open the door or even acknowledge they are there. Sorry, but it's a different world than it was 40 years ago when door to door salesmen were more common.

I don't think it works. I believe that due to safety and security problems-most people don't answer their doors anymore. I have tried to teach my children not to even open the door-if I am not home. The majority of people work-so unless you go to where people just happen to be out---malls, parks,etc. I don't think most people want to be bothered.

well it's called the rule of six. i have done it in grassroots campaigning myself. i had the same question myself however, candidates for all different political offices use it frequently (even for president) and yes sales representatives and whatnot do use it as well. although i question it myself, apparently it does work.

It's not. Many towns require you to get a permit. Many people will not open their doors to you. Most people are not home during the day and will not tolerate being disturbed at night if they even open the door.
