Nike, have some sweatshop in China, and take the advantage of the labour who under 16, it seems unethic. however, for chinese , it is not easy to gain incomes. in chinese point of view, it is not unethic.

Pick up your history book. Find the amount of places Blacks, Asians, and American Indians are mentioned.

Blacks: Slavery, Civil War, maybe the civil rights movement
Asians: Building the railroads
American Indians: 'Civilizing' the country
Think there might be some other things in over 200 years of American history these folks may have contributed to?
Now you can understand why your views and your teachers views are slanted.

I disagree Soko. Ethics are a subset grown out of beliefs you have been given over the years. If you think eating dog is ethical you might be from China. If eating dog is unethical to you then you are prob of western persuasion.
Nigerians who 'scam' people in their mind are doing nothing wrong. It is totally 'ETHICAL' to them. That's is a direct extension of their ethics.
To take Nike and say they run 'sweatshops' is casting your values on to them |

I dont know what these other posters are talking about, Emmrah is the only one whose answered the question. Its not to do with a teachers point of view, its obviously to do with ethics and corporate social responsibility. And and issue is, is it ethical for companies from the developed countries to take advantage of this cheap labour?
Is it ethical, for example, to use bribes to obtain a business contract in a foreign country? In some countries this is a standard practice but in others it is not acceptable, even illegal.
Price fixing, where competitors agree to sell the same product at the same price with the intention of pushing prices up and resulting in profits for all businesses involved, is considered unethical in developed countries, as it is unfair on customers. This is also illegal in US, EU amd some other places.
Sorry i cant really give any examples as i am not completely sure whether you want specific company examples, or if you want just an ethical issue which is different to the ones you already list.
oh, and can also add to the body shop that it was sold to loreal - conflict of interests, since loreal tests on animals. this damaged their reputation as profits from body shop ultimately belong to loreal, who are funding animal testing. |
