i work in advertising, and its actually a good way to reach parents. especially low income parents with only one or two tv sets, if the child is watching a cartoon, thats the only thing on in the house. so you may see an ad for some cooking products, or juices, maybe even some home electronics for the working mother, etc. |

I don't think that showing the tampax ad on kids tv is wrong, its a part of life and young girls need them.
If it was for alchol, or a sex related product like condoms, then no it obviously wouldn't be appropriate. Tampons on the other hand I can't see the problem with, and its not something that will cause kids any halm or they should be shielded from.
If it was deemed inappropriate, it would get banned by the ASA. |

It's mostly aimed at the 'hidden' audience. When children watch TV, it's highly likely the parents will be there too. Of course, the TV is on the channel with the childrens stuff on, and it's not like parents completely switch off. It's a lot easier for things like jingles to get into people's heads when they are not fully paying attention.
How many mothers do you know who haven't memorised most of these ads, along with their kids' programs theme tunes?
It's effective, but a bit sneaky.

Why shouldn't Tampax ads be shown during Kids TV? I'm told that many 10 year olds or less actually need them these days. if it's something that they are seeing on the box, perhaps they will be happier talking to their parents about it.
I don't have a TV so the only ad I can be specific about is the one in the question, sorry |
