If you want free marketing, you do word of mouth marketing. That's free cause it only costs your time to talk to people. Other than that, marketing is NEVER free. Why would something that helps you make money be free?

You can try Craigslist but it's only free for some things, so be sure to check. But Craigslist is a poor way to do business.

Submitting to search engines is free, but that wont help your marketing. Submitting to engines only tells them you exist. They wont rank you - only tell you to get in line. If you want to rank in searches - forget it. That will never be free. Unless you have someone who is your personal friend and willing to do this for you. To rank in search engines you need to either pay for PPC advertising or pay for SEO.
