It is excellent Marketing strategy to introduce new products and get rid of old ones. All products have a life cycle and the two- and three-blade market is now mature with lots of competitors. Gillette has found from experience that the company grows every time they introduce a new innovation. It is also good for consumers because it creates competition. Why buy a three-blade razor when I can get a 12-blade super-razor for almost the same price.
The other good trick which Gillette discovered in the 19th century is that if you provide the shaving system at a giveaway price, you lock consumers into buying the more profitable blade system. What did the 3-blade razor cost? £2 - £3. But a six-pack of blades costs around £8. It's great marketing.
Sure, we are mugs, but this kind of marketing is hardly as bad as the control on the TV and DVD player market. If you don't have hi-res TV and the latest DVD player, you can't get the dialogue on the latest DVDs. Next, you won't be able to see the movies either if you don't have hi-res TVs. That kind of marketing strategy should be legislated against. Don't you agree? |

i bought the new five blade after my mach 3 was lost. it works excellent and the blades are lasting forever. it is all about marketing, if there is a newer and improved product why buy the old one. its not even a huge purchase so they will keep improving and changing it because the product life cycle is short. |

I don't know. I use an M3Power (the battery one) and it is fantastic. Unfortunately, I recently bought a years supply of blades on ebay. I have seen the new one though, and when the blades run out for my M3 I'll give it a try. |

i don't i have one and it does an exceptional job. i have very coarse facial hair and finding a razor to get a good cut without having to change blades after everyother shave is hard to find. |

I stopped at the three blade one. I mean, they have even put an electronic gizmo in that is supposed to give a closer shave. How can a pulse from a 1.5V battery give you a closer shave. 240V maybe!!!!!!

I'll be honest, my partner will only buy himself single blade bic razors (which is a bugger cos i like lots of blades so cant nick his) and his skin is lovely and smooth - no he's not a nipper with a bit of bum fluff, he is an 'older' gentleman! I did try to convert him to triple blade, but he doesnt see the difference and i dont feel the difference on him!
But having said all that, i can almost guarantee that within the next month or so, there will be another razor gimmick gathering dust in our bathroom......... |

Yah it is ridiculous..I heard that David Bekham is endorsing it and the newspapers have said 'you wont be able to avoid his picture in this ad for the next few weeks'. People are becoming total slaves to the consumer market! I say boycott this ridiculous money making cult. |
