1) Get involved with local charities--donate candy to events and get your name out there. It's a good way to let other people know that you in the community but also care for those less fortunate.
2) Radio is going to be the cheapest route that reaches the most people. Talk to your local radio stations.
3) Try ads in the paper. Better yet, ask the media to do a story on you. If it's a family-owned store with a lot of history or even a unique story, the media may eat it up.
4) Coupons--check out Valpak if it's in your area. If not, send out coupons to a select couple hundred people. |

This really depends on your store's focus. Are you getting a lot of corporate business? Large Orders for special occasions? Custom Gift Baskets with your specialty candy?
- Or - are you a primarily retail establishment with walk in customers buying by the ounce? If you're one of those malls stores, your main focus is the walk in traffic that is created by the quality of the shopping center.
If you're looking for large orders, you may want to get involved with the local chamber and market how you can help other businesses with their customer loyalty and branding efforts. "give our candy as gifts to your loyal customers"
I know a donut shop that pays $9,000/month rent. You think they really sell enough donuts to their walk in customers to pay that kind of rent? No! But, they're the ONLY donut store that's a member of the local chamber and chambers encourage loyalty to members - keep the economy in the community. So, they do so well because they focus on encouraging schools, churches, businesses to buy their donuts. They give freebies to the administrative assistant or whomever is in charge of buying for the school, business, etc.

Well living in the city I may have a couple of ideas. Look for community bulletin boards, and post your advertisement there its free. Also a good way is to maybe setup a little shop at one of the cities upcoming events. Take an add out in the Daily News thats not to expensive. Halloween is coming up make sure to setup some decorations and give out candy (the good stuff) kids will remember this and hopefully come back knowing you have all the good stuff. Also go around to local buisnesses ask to put flyers out in there shop in return you could put there flyers in yours. Another way is to get advertisemnts on place mats at local Dinners.

Little four piece boxes could be a form of "advertising'...or an additional avenue for business. Where they would be distributed is for you to figure out, but as far as a part of the business...check with caterers...many weddings , business gatherings, funeral luncheons, etc now include these little treats at each table or at a separate "dessert table".
My daughter who just loves to do chocolate occassionally does these small boxes of truffles for weddings...started as a favor for a friends wedding, but was approached by others for the same. She got a supply of little decorative boxes...and can do a couple of hundred in a night or two...and arranges delivery. No name on her boxes, but yours could have the name discreetly placed somewhere.
I don't know how big a business section you have in Philadelphia, but besides caterers, look at sandwich shops that deliver to business meetings ( it's a bigger business than you would think) ... you can get on the phone and try to sell the little box with lunch idea or even offer to " just try it for a couple of weeks" and front the candies to a reputable, busy place. |

Come uo with a good fundraising idea and send out flyers and postcards and send them out to churches, schools, community groups in your area. I highly recommend you read books on "Guerilla Marketing".
