myname_isalbert | Good fundraising ideas for my school's marketing club? |
I know it is pretty strange for a marketing club to be asking others for help in terms of fundraising, but I would like to hear other's input. Anyway the school club has stuck to a few fundraisers that seem to have performed well - to list a few:
- Movie Nights
- DeCafe [donuts (very popular), coffee, hot chocolate, cappucino, cookies)
- Selling tickets to sporting events or clubs
- Proposing to the school's parent council
I am wondering if any of you guys have had fundraising events of great success. I want to do something different. Everybody does the traditional selling food, car washing thing. What is something that will really work and capture a high-school audience that can fundraise well? These are 14-18 year old students. Thanks for your help. |

We used to sell seasonal items at just the right time when people start thinking about them, both with student take-home order forms and maybe a weekend public sale that hits an impulse buy pricepoint. For example my organization used to sell Christmas wreaths in the center of town on the weekend after Thanksgiving... we sold out every year. We also used to do a Mother's Day Pancake Breakfast (outdoors, cooked by the group, and some items were donated by local grocery stores), and we started selling those tickets 6 weeks beforehand.
But just to depart a little from the "usual suspects" of fundraising and let your group exercise their emerging professional skills - How about a raffle based on "The Apprentice"- offer your marketing club's services & labor to local businesses. Set the amount of group time or projects based on what makes sense... e.g. a couple hours of telemarketing by your group on their behalf, develop a mailer or brochure for the business, produce an ad for the local paper, whatever.
It's a win/win because the business can get a write-off donation AND 1 winner will get something in return. For your club members, they get a real-world, tangible experience. You might even get the printer/newspaper/whomever to donate some of the production costs. And who says it has to be a raffle with just one winner? You could have a couple prizes... and your kids can be part of the creative brainstorming process.
Good luck in whatever you do! |

I sell hand poured gourmet candles and have done several successful fundraisers selling these. People love them because they smell great and burn cleanly from top to bottom without loosing their scents! I have a few booked for the month of November but I always have room for more! If you're interested let me know and I'd be glad to share information with you. |

This is the best and newest way to raise funds for schools, fire companies, churches, and so much more. What makes this such a great idea, is not only does the school, church, or whatever you want to raise funds for benefit from this but the people that are helping you are also helping themselves. The amazing thing about My Power Mall, is that it does not cost them or you anything. This is free for everyone. If you want to learn more, check it out. No risk, no cost, no catches. |

We've had movie all nighters
raffles,
fun fairs
parents just giving the money instead of selling tickets
haunted houses
seminars
trips
Fasts (amazing how many kids will go with out food for a day or a weekend, if they can crash at school, be semi entertained and hang out with their friends)
Good luck, see if you can get one of your local marketing firms to come talk to them about how to market and what effective marketing would be for them |

How much time do you have to raise the funds?
Have an awards banquet. The awards can be supplied by sponsors. The cost of the catering could be covered by sponsors. Tickets to this event could be sold for $100 a head or something outrageous like that. They can be sold to sponsoring companies and given to students who otherwise couldn't afford them.
The parents club would be a great source of sponsors both from the parents and from the companies they work for. The students could sell the tickets to the event.
Your school principle, head coach, or some of the teachers could be presenters of the awards. They would also be a good source for ideas about what the awards would be given for.
How's that? |
