Grand opening ideas?
Any ideas to help entice people into my new shop? I already have a competition and prize in the local paper. Any suggestions to attract local customers? serious suggestions appreciated. Thank you. The shop is a jewellery and accessories shop.

A couple of thoughts. You could "affiliate" with other stores that aren't really competitors. For example, wedding/bridal shops, flower shops, wedding coordinators. Offer to put their flyers in your place if they will put your flyer/marketing piece in theirs. Perhaps, you could offer a "preferred customer" discount to those who brought in the flyer within the first 60 days. (Be sure to put a date such as "Offer expires on June 1, 2007") Then just change out the flyers every few months with a new expiration date.

Secondly, you might consider having the local radio station broadcast live from your store during grand opening. It will probably cost you a $1,000, but the exposure will be worth it and it will definitely tell potential customers that you are legitimate.

Have you joined your local Chamber of Commerce? As a businessman myself, my partners and I are always trying to give our business to local companies (even if there price is a little more) because we feel the residual/referral business will come back to us in the long run.

Hope that helps.

My wife has a beauty salon. She is going to a wedding fair this month. As an insentive to atract people to the stand, she is giving away a Wedding Make-up for 1 person. To take part, they must fill in entry forms. This then gives us emails and addresses of people interested in the area, and can be sent advertising info at a later date. Maybe try something like that at jewelery fairs. Also have you tried getting your jewelery displayed in a salon, as an exchange. They display yours and you display theirs?

Hire a few girls to walk about town on saturday wearing your gear, and get them to go up to other girls to give them flyers and show off said gear - my friend did something similar when she owned a clubwear store, we all wore outfits to the busiest club in town on a saturday night and the shop was packed for weeks after!!!!!

Good luck!!

It's prom season. Host a premiere for girls. Have them bring in their dresses and pick out the jewelry. Offer a way for brides to do the same thing.

Have you considered providing "free valuations" for a given period followed up by a discounted "repair service" Another option could be a "free jewellery clean" on a given day, perhaps when the foot-traffic is at it's lowest.

The best advertising is word of mouth. Give coupons to current customers to give to friends who have never shopped in your store. If they can get another person to come in and use their coupon, they get ($1 store credit or 15% off any one item - something that is better than the coupon). The more people they get to come in, the better the savings are for them.

Also, I am not sure where you are located but if you have a lot of foot traffic in front of your store, make sure that people can really see who you are and what you are about with eye-catching signs and window displays. Live mannequins on busy shopping days usually draw large crowds.

Good luck on your new venture!

First you need to establish a advertising budget, once in place I would suggest the following.

Guerrilla marketing - Flyers (hand-outs), Public Relations (submit a press release to all local newspapers, TV, Radio, etc...), cross-promoting (look at other stores in malls, strip centers and mutually promote each other), coupons (good for hand-outs and cross promoting) and any less expensive means of advertising.

Mass Advertising - Newspapers, Bulletins, Door hanger ads and postcards, these are relatively inexpensive ways to advertise a product.

Grand Opening - have a ribbon cutting, invite Mayor, community chambers members, local groups, etc...

Hope this helps, it has helped me with many of my clients/customers.

Make the outside of your shop look festive for the grand opening. Have music and balloons just outside the door. Set out plates of cookies and lemonade. Give away free promotional gifts such as pens with your shop name and telephone number.

Post notices all around town and invite people to the grand opening party.

Do inexpensive radio spot ads inviting people the party.

Good luck.

Find out your local radio and see if they would let you have a slot to advertise the grand day

Hope it goes well for you

Wet tee shirt contest, and the women can display some of your jewelery when participating in the contest.
