my parents own a pub and like many in britain its struggling, i am tryin to think of ideas to help boost the business. we have darts teams and have karaoke, live music and a bullseye style game on sat nites. any other idea? |

Here is an idea for you...
Partner up with 3 or so other pubs out of your area (say 30 mile radius), perhaps linked by the same brewery, beer or similar facilities, a bit like twinned towns.
Then organise a once a month visit on your quietest night so as not to lose your own custom.takings. Then all 4 pubs can take turns 'hosting' the the evening on their month and put on food, quiz, music, fancy dress etc.
Your customers share the cost of the minibus/food.
It will make for a good night out for your 'locals on tour', and once every 4 months you will fill your pub with 3 minibuses of customers on an otherwise dead night.
ALSO...
Get your parents to organise a 'Charity' Treasure Hunt... Not a car one, do a walking one around your area, ending up at the pub for food and drinks. This will interest people who may have never been in the pub and so get in new potential customers.
You need to do events that will entice new customers and get people away from the computer/games console for a good night out. |

Sorry to say but in my local area in Scotland, many of the Pubs are also struggling. The Scots like a good drink but can only afford to go out one night a week. We have tried all the usual attractions but there is a limit to how much money people will spend nowadays.
Everyone is now happy to sit at their computers with a beer or two and chat to people all over the world instead of the local bores down at the Pub. Social Networking is changing all of our lifes. The TV at the weekend is also keeping people at home with great entertainment.
If you can get an X-Factor in the Pub then go for it.
It will get worse before things start to pick up. |

What about free WiFi?
A lot depends on where the pub is and the type of customers your parents want to attract. If it's in a family area, make sure there are safe facilities for children. If it's in a business area, go for the WiFi.
Someone mentioned quiz nights. Rather than just having them for your pub, get teams together to compete against other pubs locally. That way, you all get more business and it gets people back into the way of thinking of the pub as part of their social life.

"all you can drink" might be a good idea. Or if that may cause trouble, something like "self service machines" where people fill up with beer at their own comfort (after paying a premium price of course). Just an idea... |
