like they said above, networking is networking. You have to join other programs and networks if you want to build your own. Once it is reputable, of course, you can begin building your own networks in which people would join yours... but it is a fact of life; you cannot avoid "joining" anything.
below is a bit of an upper scale netowrking site, so it is not as annoying as myspace or facebook, etc.... |

Use what is already there and already successful!
Most of the ways of promoting whatever business you are already into will itself be another program. You have to accept that. Don't ever just join someones business or program in hopes of getting rich or finding a solve all situation to your business building needs. Success comes through research and education fallowed by implementing the necessary skills to succeed. There are some helpful tools out there to help you build your business. There is also some great facts and research on the industry as a whole. It is necessary to understand the industry that you are in. You can not fly through to success just on the hype alone. You should not Just Join a Business. You should be looking for something you love that you can make money at. If it already has a proven system or network then why not just tap into that.
The Key is to be sure you like and are comfortable with what you are doing. Pick a product or industry that you like and you think will be around and used by others.
