I would look at websites that have links pages and see if they would post your link in exchange for you linking to them.

For example, http://www.bofads.com has a friends page, and they say they will link to your site if you ask them to. (The question then becomes whether you want to be associated with them). I'm sure there are other sites that do that too. Good luck.

I totally agree with Ad Man, nothing's free, it either requires money, or time. The best "Free" and effective traffic is writing articles. if you would like to know more, check out my quick and basic guide to article marketing. 1. Start submitting your url/product to directories and search engines. Being indexed by these websites will help you get more people coming into your site.

2. Be active on related forums and chatrooms. This will also make you create our own network.

3. Promote your website/product to community sites like friendster, myspace, etc.

There are ways to advocate your site without spending a lot of money.
1.) Write articles and subject them.
2.) Start an interesting Blog in a site that will list your web page and link the web page to the blog
3.) Most importantly Yahoo has user groups you can join. Join the groups that would have an interest in seeing your web site.
I would suggest asking questions rather than trying to sell someone anything.. ask...can you folks look at my web page and tell me how I can make it better? for example.
4.) Answer your email and don't be afraid to write individuals, even professionals. Always tell them the truth...if you don't have money to promote, tell them right up front and still ask if they have any suggestions. If they reply, you probably found someone to work with if you get dollars and you may get some good advice to boot.
5) Join a webring related to your product or service. This will help boost your hits and give your site a wee bit more visibility.

Everyone that has a website seems to think that there must be great ways to advertising it for FREE and get zillions of people to go there.
THINK ABOUT THIS; If it were that easy, why would anyone pay for a Google Adword program or any other type of paid promotion?
With millions of website all hoping to get visitors, does it make more sense to attract them with marketing? If you opened a restaurant, would everyone just come by because it was open?
Of course not. You have to advertise and that takes money. So stop whining and waste time. If you have a good site and it's a true business, invest back into it with a proper planned marketing strategy including SEO, PPC, and other online approaches.
There is no free lunch. Nuff said.
