How and why designers put high prices on their products?
Im a designer and im making a leather handbag collection. Im usign good quality leathers and i want to reach a middle or upper class market. I want to be in a good position but nobody knows my product yet. What do i have to do that to sell my bags to that market?
Make a decent price. Make something affordable for the middle classes but not cheap. Something that'll say " I got a Webbie handbag" and people will know that your not cheap. For the upper class, make something around the middle for them, not cheap and not too high. Don't make it in the middle class level for the upper class.Hopefully, my advice has helped.
P.S. sorry, I don't know what your handbag is called so I used webbie as an example.

They put high prices on them because foolish people think the more they pay for something the better it is and the more prestige it shows. Why don't you go to some business that just started out and see if they can give some ideas.

Answer to 2nd part: Marketing. You have to SELL your product before you sell it. Sometimes this works: give your product to someone important/popular, but make sure you have them sign a clause they cannot disclose you gave it to them free or at a special discounted price. Also, the agreement should include that they use the product everywhere they go, especially very public places.
The best thing to include, a good lawyer to handle all legal aspects. and a secretary that can spell correctly and use correct punctuation. Poor grammar will lessen your worth.
