How can I bring more traffic to my blog?

So http://www.awesomegadgets4u.blogspot.com. My friend said using the same words over and over work like tags for Google. On that blog, I used "Electornic Gadgets" he said that it is rumored that putting the words in bold helps Google find more accurate results in their SERPs.

So I was thinking, will a blogspot blog show up on Google's SERPs? (And maybe other SERPs if that's the case?)

Do you have any ideas how I could bring traffic to my blog? Please tell me anything you would know about this. I don't really want to pay for this, because I want to do it as a hobby, but I don't want to write for no one to see, I want to get some views.

How could I get more traffic? My friend also said I should make at least 1 post per day in the blog. Any ideas? Thanks =)

You friend was both right and wrong.:)

Yes, using the same words over and over again will work but not much. Let me explain:

1. Keyword Optimization:

The idea behind this is that people search using keywords like "electronic gadgets", by highlighting and repeating the words "electronic gadgets" in your blog, you basically tell the Google spider that your page is relevant to the search phrase.

HOWEVER

Keep in mind that there are a lot of other blogs and more importantly company sites that are competing for the traffic that the keyword "Electronic Gadgets" brings in. If most sites are more relevant than yours, your blog will not show up in SERPS.

(check Google keyword tool to see how many are competing for the same keyword and how many searches are being done using this keyword)

WHAT TO DO?

Do not compete for keywords that many people are using. This is just like lining up where the most people are instead of where you can be first. Instead, try to look for keywords that less people are using for their blogs in order to rank better in that term. Instead of electronic gadgets, you might like to try out other terms that are more specific or less used like electronic gizmos or Ipod nanos. You can also use longer keywords (this is the long tail theory of SEO) that are less used like "new electronic gadgets in 2008".

You'll find out that you'll get more traffic and rank higher if you use the bottom 70% least used keywords in your product category than if you use the top 30% most used keywords in searches where you'll have lots of competition in the SERPS.

a word of WARNING though.

Dont overuse your keywords. Once in the title and 3-4 times in the body is enough. Oversaturating your blog post with keywords (more than 10% of total word count) is a good way to let Google know that you are spamming keywords and this will rank you lower in the SERPS.

Which brings me to my next point:

BLOG FOCUS

Try to focus on only one main theme for the content in your website. Talking about electronic gadgets some days and then discussing your personal life or movie reviews on others posts is a good way to dilute the relevance of your blog when it comes to SERPS. By focusing on one and only one main topic, you basically tell search engines that you're a GURU on that niche.

Blog Updates

Yup, you should also update your blog from time to time but i think once a day is too much. Focus instead on making your content relevant and interesting. This will encourage return traffic, links from people talking about your site and more comments on your blog (by the way, comments are counted by Google as updates). All these will increase your site authority and thus ranking in the SERPS.

Your blog must have unique and fresh content. This would help attracting both search engine crawlers as well as human visitors to come to your blog very often. (I mean the returning visitors would increase). Right about some interesting issues or provide big list or resources to the users.
